Stock Analysis: U.S. Bancorp

Friday’s Dog of the Day is U.S. Bancorp with the ticker (USB). It has not been reviewed for any of my previous dog of the week portfolios.
U.S. Bancorp (USB) is one of the largest regional banks in the US with its footprint in 26 states and assets of around $680 billion. The bank’s branch network is mostly in midwestern and western markets. Its comprehensive product set, includes retail and commercial banking, credit cards, mortgages, payment services, trust, and wealth services.
U.S. Bancorp was founded in 1863 and is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Three key data points gauge
U.S. Bancorp or any dividend paying entity:
(1) Price
(2) Dividends
(3) Returns
Those keys also show if any company has made, is making, and will make money.
USB Price
U.S. Bancorp price is up 0.80% for the year as of May 8th’s market price, from $41.58 to $41.92.
USB Dividends
U.S. Bancorp has paid almost annually increasing quarterly dividends since January, 1985. A forward looking annual dividend of $2.00, based on a declared semi-annual payout of $0.50, yields 4.84% per May 7th’s closing market price.
USB Returns
Putting it all together, a $4.15 estimated gross gain per share shows up by adding USB’s annual $2.00 dividend to an estimated $2.15 average annual price gain over the past 5 years, totals that $4.15 gross gain amount.
A little over $1000 investment at the recent $41.92 5/7 price would buy 24 shares which, multiplies the $4.15 gross gain to $99.60.
Furthermore almost half of that gain comes from the $48.40 in dividends estimated from a $1,000 investment. That $48.40 dividend gain is about 15% greater than the recent $41.92 share price.
Therefore, you may choose to pounce any this substantial dividend paying financial sector stock with its 40-yeardividend payment record.
The exact track of USB’s future prices and dividends will entirely be determined by market action and company finances.
Remember the best way to track stock performance and dividend payments is through direct ownership of company shares.
