Here is a short report on the second of five Financial Sector candidates for the 31st selection to my Attention portfolio.

My Tuesday, May 6 Dog of the Day at 9:30 AM is ORIX Corp with the ticker (IX).

This stock has not been reviewed for any of my past ten years of dog of the week portfolios.

The company was formerly known as Orient Leasing Co., Ltd. and changed its name to ORIX Corporation in 1989.

ORIX Corporation was incorporated in 1950 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

ORIX Corporation provides diversified financial services, primarily leasing, in Japan, the United States, Asia, Europe, Australasia, and the Middle East.

Three key data points gauge ORIX or any dividend paying entity:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Those keys also show if any company has made, is making, and will make money.

IX Price

ORIX price is down 3.34% for the year as of May 2nd’s market price, from $20.93 to $20.12.

IX Dividends

ORIX has paid variable annual dividends since July, 1999 and converted to semi-annual payouts in June 2015. The current forward looking semi-annual dividend of $0.41 yields 4.08% per May 2nd’s $20.12 market price.

IX Returns

Putting it all together, a $2.55 estimated gross gain per share shows up by adding IX’s annual $0.82 dividend to an estimated $1.73  average annual price gain over he past five years, totaling that $2.55 gross gain amount.

A little over $1000 investment at the recent $20.12 price would buy 50 shares which, multiplies the $2.55 gross gain to $127.50.

Furthermore, about one-third of that gain comes from the $40.80 in dividends estimated from a $1,000 investment, which is just over 2 times more than the recent $20.12 share price.

(A dividend dogcatcher rule is to never buy a dividend from $1000 invested that pays less than the cost of a single share.)

Therefore, you may choose to pounce on ORIX IX dividend payment with its 26 year dividend record.

Remember the best way to track stock performance and dividend payments is through direct ownership of company shares.
