Here is a short report on the first of five Financial Sector candidates for the 31st selection to my Attention portfolio.

My Monday, May 5 at 9:20AM Dog of the Day is Fifth Third Bancorp with the ticker (FITB)  it has been reviewed for one or more of my past ten years of dog of the week portfolios.  It the first of five candidates for the thirty-first addition to my Attention portfoliio (number 10).

Founded in 1858 and is headquartered in Cincinatti, Ohio, Fifth Third Bancorp operates as the bank holding company for Fifth Third Bank, National Association that engages in the provision of a range of financial products and services in the United States.

It operates through three segments: Commercial Banking, Consumer and Small Business Banking, and Wealth and Asset Management.

Three key data points gauge

Fifth Third Bancorp or any dividend paying entity, namely:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Those keys also show if any company has made, is making, and will make money.

FITB Price

Fifth Third Bancorp’s price is down 1.2% for the year as of May 2nd’s closing market price, from $37.56 to $37.10.

FITB Dividends

Fifth Third has paid variable quarterly dividends since July 1992. The current forward looking annual dividend of $1.48 yields 3.99% per Friday’s May 2nd market price.

FITB Returns

Putting it all together, a $7.38 estimated gross gain per share shows up when adding FITB’s annual $1.48 dividend to an estimated $5.90 annual price gain, totaling that $7.38 gross gain amount.

A little over $1000 investment at the recent $37.10 price would buy 27 shares which, multiplies the $7.38 gross gain to $199.26

Furthermore over 20% of that gain comes from the $39.90 in dividends generated from a $1,000 investment which amounts to over $2.80 greater than the recent $37.10 single-share price.

(A dividend dogcatcher rule is to never buy a dividend from $1000 invested that pays less than the cost of a single share.)

Therefore, you may choose to pounce on First Third Bancorp dividend payment with its 33 year dividend record.

The exact track of FITB’s future prices and dividends will entirely be determined by market action and company finances.

Remember the best way to track stock performance and dividend payments is through direct ownership of company shares.
