Our Pure-Play Quantum Computing R&D Stocks Portfolio Soared 18% Last Week

An Introduction

According to Precedence Research, the quantum computing industry is expected to experience a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 36.9% between now and 2030. Operational quantum computers will only number about 5,000 by then according to McKinsey’s estimation but, when they do, they will change the world as we currently know it.

Pure-Play Quantum Computing R&D Stocks Portfolio: up 18.4% w/e July 18th; up 23.5% MTD

Pure-play quantum computing stocks rallied sharply during the week ending July 18th, and several fresh catalysts likely fueled the surge: Below is how each constituent performed, in descending order, and MTD.

  1. Rigetti Computing (RGTI): up 41.1% w/e July 18th; up 55.2% MTD
    • Focus: Specializes in superconducting qubit technology and has developed a suite of software tools and algorithms for programming and simulating quantum computations.
    • Primary Reason For Increase: Rigetti announced its 36-qubit modular quantum system achieved 99.5% median two-qubit gate fidelity, effectively halving its error rate compared to its previous best on the 84-qubit Ankaa-3 system which positions Rigetti to launch a 100+ qubit chiplet-based system by year-end, a key step toward commercial-scale quantum computing. The breakthrough triggered a surge in call option volume, up 358%, signaling bullish sentiment and a breakout in technical levels, attracting momentum traders and landing on several “top stocks to buy” lists.
  2. D-Wave Computing (QBTS): up 27.5% w/e July 18th; up 34.7% MTD
    • Focus: Focuses on quantum annealing technology.
    • Primary Reason For Increase: D-Wave expanded its partnership with Zapata AI to accelerate generative AI platforms and reported double-digit growth in its workforce development initiative.
  3. Quantum Computing Inc. (QUBT): up 12.2% w/e July 18th; up 13.0% MTD
    • Focus: Develops photonic qubits that offer a number of key advantages over trapped ions or superconducting qubits.
    • Primary Reason For Increase: Released a mid-year update highlighting progress in photonic qubit development, which offers scalability advantages.
  4. IonQ (IONQ): up 11.2% w/e July 18th; up 15.5% MTD
    • Focus: Planning to build a network of quantum computers accessible via the cloud using trapped-ion technology in its processing units.
    • Primary Reason For Increase: IonQ announced a $1.1 billion acquisition of Oxford Ionics and new partnerships with Toyota Tsusho and Intellian, boosting its trapped-ion tech and quantum networking ambitions.

Summary

Our Pure-Play Quantum Computing R&D Stocks Portfolio went up 18.4% w/e July 18th and is now up 23.5% MTD.

What Is Quantum Computing?

The better the computing power, and the more data, the better a semiconductor will perform and, as such, the race is on for companies to radically upgrade the computing power of their models and that’s where QC comes in.
