Lots Of Deal News

Tuesday saw lots of deal news as companies rushed to finalize their moves before the summer break which formally begins Monday, the day after July 4 which falls on a Sunday this year. Having already had a holiday for Juneteenth, some people will not get Monday off. 

Today Didi, a Chinese ride-hailing stock is doing its IPO reportedly at above the level projected in its application. It has the distinction of being owned both by Softbank and by Tencent of Japan and China TCEHY and SFTBY. DIDI hopes to raise $4 bn for a valuation of about $6.5 bn overall.

Microsoft launched Windows 11.

Oilpatch

*Two shares I own, Schlumberger Ltd SLB and IBM will create the announced today the industry's first commercial hybrid cloud Enterprise Data Management System for the OSDU Data Platform used to track oil and gas search. A hybrid cloud will expand access to customers globally. In locations where the use of the public global cloud is restricted by data homeland rules and local regulations, the new system will put all workflow data in one place. This will cut the time spent on exploration and production analysis and speed up decisions as teams will share information more easily. It also should cut costs. SLB rose 1.5% at the opening to $32.5+ on the news.

*Anglo-Dutch Shell and French Renault are rumored to be plotting to take a stake in Ionty which is backed by Volkswagen or Volkswagen of Germany. It is Slovak or Czech.

*Highly volatile Energy Fuels, UUUU, today was up 1% to $16.06 on options considered bearish.

*Ormat fell another 0.7% today. ORA is a geothermal pure play.

*Canadian Solar, CSIQ, gained 2.83% at the open, hitting $47.35. It makes solar panels in China but not in Uighur areas. It was tipped today on seekingalpha.com by the Late Investor. We told you first.

*Plug Power opened up 6% but fell after a negative take by InvestorsObserver on PLUG to $35.

*Azure Power of Mauritius gained another 3.12% to $26.55. Now it is up 2%. AZRE.

*NIO is up fractionally on the embarrassment of another electric vehicle maker in China, Tesla.

Pharmaceuticals

*Walmart will sell house-brand insulin at a discount of 75% from what pharmacies charge. This boosted the share of Danish Novo Nordisk its exclusive supplier of analog insulin to $84+.

*TEVA is partnering with Bioeq AG of Germany in development of a biosimilar for Lucentis (ranibizumab) eye treatment for age-related macular degeneration, which afflicted my Mom. Teva fell 1.5% on the news that the NY trial on opioids opened today.

*Novacure is at $224.12 another rise for the electric cancer treatment Israeli firm. NVCR.

*Compugen's update on PVRIG the immunization checkpoint inhibitor to mobilize T-cells, hit CGEN.

*Cathie Wood's ARKbought both Novartis and Takeda. We own NVS and TAK in our portfolio. TAK today published its SEC annual report and replaced its earlier shelf registration to supply shares to its workers with a new one. Both are for 92 bn Yen.

*EU regulators okayed Bristol-Myers's Opdivo and Yervoy combo to treat resistant colorectal cancers. BMY

*After rising at the opening Alkermes of Ireland fell back 0.5% despite a high outlook from Reuters. ALKS.

Tech & Tel

*Ericsson rose on the market reaction to its becoming a corporate Partner of the new 5G open innovation lab. Swedish ERIC's rival, Nokia of Finland, not a member, rose 0.19%.

*Mercado Libre of Argentina, an Amazon rival, fell 0.19%. They are perhaps reacting to Amazon's falling here to under $3441 because Facebook was not hauled away for buying MGM. MELI.

*Naspers today rose by nearly 1.25% at the opening here. NPSNY had fallen earlier by 4.84% in UK trading. It reversed because with its Dutch arm Prosus NV PROSY it hired a new chief of investments from Tencent, Ervin Tu who earlier worked for Goldman Sachs. He will work from Cal unless it burns down.

The duo have lost their cachet as the backdoor to TCEHY, Tencent.

*Coupang of Korea is up 12.08 % to over $42.8. The Amazon of Asia had no news in English. It now is up only 11% still a nice boost. It IPO'd at an excess price back in March. CPNG.

*African Multichoice gained 2.4% on no news. MCHOY was spun off by Naspers but now runs on its own.

Finance

*Rizal of the Philippines is selling 5% of its stock to Sumitomo Mitsui of Japan. SMFG lost 1.12% on the news. Mitsubishi, the other Japanese financial group, fell 1.91% to $27.74 as it may lost business.

*Cosan CSAN of Brazil fell 2.5% on no news. It sold off its gas stations in Argentina and Brazil in a JV with Royal Dutch Shell RDS-B. We are ahead of about 28% YTD.

*AAIGFAIA Hong Kong, is down 0.05% pm no news. It is an Asia insurance firm.

*Scotiabank rose 0.1% on no news. BNS.

*Lazard the fund manager gained 1.33% to $44.77 while its LGI fund gained 0.28%.

*I bought more Finnish Sampo today at $23.19 and am now up a penny. SAXPY.

*Swedish Investor A/B which owns a chunk of Nasdaq, gained 1.43% to $23.34 today. IVSBF.

*Gold is down. SPDR Gold, GLD, is off 0.91%. Gold is priced in US bucks.

*Kirkland Lake Gold, KL, lost 1% for the same reason. But it is doing a share buyback which should reverse some of its losses as a Canadian gold miner operating south of the border. Its costs are also in lower bucks.

*Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure, AY, a $-denominated UK fund, lost 0.08% after it was initiated by Tudor Pickering as a hold yesterday. It was picked by Harry Geisel. It is nearly half-owned by Canadian ute Algonquin Power, AQN, which fell 0.88% today. AQN is rated outperform by Royal Bank of Canada but because it earns a lot of US dollars, not just from AY, by from its cross-border operations, it falls when our buck does. It is variably rated by analysts.
