'Finding Dory' Tops Box Office For Second Week, 'Independence Day' Underwhelms
Disney's (DIS) "Finding Dory" grossed $73.2M domestically for the weekend of June 26, falling slightly short of an $80M-$81M expected range. After last weekend's record opening, Pixar's latest stands at a U.S. total of $286.6M.
Box Office Runners Up:
Fox's (FOXFOX) "Independence Day: Resurgence" debuted at $41.6M, missing estimates of $48M-$55M and failing to match the $50M of 1996's "Independence Day." Produced with a reported budget of $165M, the film stars returning cast member Jeff Goldblum alongside Liam Hemsworth, and received a B in audience polls from CinemaScore.
In international markets, "Resurgence" took the top spot with $102.1M. Meanwhile, Time Warner's (TWX) "Central Intelligence" added $18.4M in its second week.
Sony's (SNE) shark attack thriller "The Shallows" opened at $16.7M, outperforming expectations for $12.5M-$15M.
Rounding out the top five, STX Entertainment's civil war film "Free State of Jones," starring Matthew McConaughey, earned $7.8M in its U.S. debut. Other publicly traded companies in filmmaking include Viacom (VIA), Comcast (CMCSA) and Lionsgate (LGF).

I think this is relatively good. If people haven't noticed the "recovery" is not happening but rather people are tightening their belt by eating out less, going to the movies less, buying clothes less, and spending extravagantly less. This is probably because they are being clobbered by inflation that isn't tracked, that is housing inflation that is still growing well in excess of income gains.
