Elon’s Binary Fate
Is there a 60/40 chance that Elon Musk steps down as Twitter CEO today? Who’s to say? ICYMI: Yesterday, @elonmusk tweeted out a yes/no poll asking, “Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.” By the time you read this, we may have heard from Elon.
If we have not yet heard Elon weigh in on these (absolutely expected) results, here’s my guess. He’s going to be CEO for a few more months until a replacement can be found. Then, if he can’t raise additional funds or figure out a way to make the company profitable, he’ll install someone else to preside over what’s left of Twitter.
While it’s true that Twitter has been significantly more entertaining since Elon took over, it’s not all fun and games. There is a growing list of disgruntled vendors and former employees taking Twitter to court for unpaid obligations, and Elon has – objectively speaking – dramatically diminished whatever B2B goodwill Twitter may once have had.
On a semi-humorous note, Jason Calacanis (@jason) posted a poll asking who should take over as Twitter’s next CEO: himself, Sacks, or Calacanis and Sacks together as co-CEOs. So far, the fourth option (“Other”) was winning by a wide margin.
