Cannabis Central: Pot Stock Index Flat On Tuesday But Greenlane Up 21.6% & Acreage Up 19.1%

The Non-Penny Pot Stock Index (NPSI) was flat on Tuesday although  8 of the 9 industry categories advanced. Greenlane advanced the most (21.6%) while cbdMD declined the most (-5.4%).

Again on Tuesday the vast majority (28) of the 39 NPSI constituents (pot stocks that trade US$1/share or more) advanced, 2 had no change in price and 9 declined. Here are the details:

The Biggest Winners 

On Tuesday 15 constituents advanced by 5%, or more (17 did so on Friday), as follows:

    • Greenlane (GNLN) +21.6%
  • 5 constituents advanced between 10% and 19.9%: 
    • Acreage (ACRGF) +19.1%
    • Avicanna (AVCNF) +15.6%
    • Alcanna (LQSIF) +14.5%
    • Village Farms (VFF) +12.9%
    • Akerna (KERN) +12.2%
  •  9 constituents advanced between 5% and 9.9%:
    • Columbia (CCHWF) +9.9%
    • Abacus (ABAHF) +7.1%
    • FSD Pharma (HUGE) +7.1%
    • XPhyto (XPHYF) +6.8%
    • TerrAscend (TRSSF) +6.3%
    • Harvest Health (HRVSF) +5.5%
    • Tilray (TLRY) +5.4%
    • New Age (NBEV) +5.2%

The Biggest Loser

  • Only 1 NPSI constituent declined in excess of 5%, namely:
    • cbdMD (YCBD) -5.4%

Notable Mention: HEXO (HEXO) +10.6% (a former constituent but now trading below US$1/share.)

    • This category consists of pharmaceutical companies focused on the R&D of new drugs and products utilizing cannabinoids.
    • There are 7 NPSI constituents within this category (ABAHF; AVCNF; CARACRBP; GWPH; XPHYFZYNE) and they went UP 2.7%, on average.
  3. Marijuana-Infused Products Category:
    • This category consists of companies focused on developing and selling marijuana-infused products and companies focused on the extraction of cannabis compounds and their infusion into consumer products.
    • There are 3 NPSI constituents within this category (CRLBF; NEPT; NBEV) and they went UP 2.0%, on average.
  4. Consumption Devices Category:
    • This category consists of companies focused on developing and selling personal consumption devices for cannabis consumers such as vape pens and inhalers.
    • There are 3 NPSI constituents within this category (AYRSFGNLNPYX) and they went UP 3.2%, on average.
  5. Agricultural Technology Category:
    • This category consists of companies focused on providing automated growing systems, greenhouses, farming products, nutrients, hydroponics, fertilization systems, horticultural expertise, LED/lighting technologies, air filtration systems, and climate control and energy efficiency systems.
    • There are 2 NPSI constituents within this category (GRWGVFF) and they went UP 3.7%, on average.
  6. Real Estate Category:
    • This category consists of investment companies and REITs that develop, own, and/or lease commercial real estate properties to licensed cannabis operators.
    • There is only 1 NPSI constituent within this category (IIPR) and it went UP 2.6%.
  7. Business Services/Consulting Category:
    • This category consists of companies that provide professional services such as branding, packaging, bottling, compliance, physical security, transportation, lab testing, distribution, and insurance. consulting and other business services directly to marijuana cultivators and retailers.
    • There is only 1 NPSI constituent in this category (SHWZ; YCBDand it went DOWN 3.7%.
  8. Technology & Media Category:
    • This category covers companies that provide delivery services, enterprise software, e-commerce platforms, communication and mapping services, and trading platforms and companies that provide marijuana-related media including news, content, social networks, games, and entertainment.
    • There is only 1 NPSI constituent in this category (KERN) and it went UP 12.2%.
  9. Hemp Products Category:
    • This category consists of companies that produce and sell hemp products.
    • There are 2 NPSI constituents in this category (CWBHF;cbdMD) and they went UP 3.1%, on average.

Why is so much cannabis content Canadian focused. Is US law still so far behind?

Cannabis, both recreational and medicinal, is legal to consume in Canada from coast to coast in every province. In the U.S. cannabis (marijuana) is not federally approved and only certain states allow its consumption. Also, in the U.S. it is illegal to transport pot across state lines so each company is set up as a MSO (Multi-State Operator)

Seems like the US is very far behind the times in this regard. Is it true that the companies have to run an all cash business?

Yes, because it is illegal federally cannabis companies cannot use the federally approved banking system. They must use an all-cash business.
