Cannabis Central: Only These 4 NPSI Constituents Moved 5% Or More On Monday

The Non-Penny Pot Stock Index (NPSI) was UP 1.8% on Monday with 20 of the 39 constituents having some minor gains and 15 showing some weakness (4 saw no change in price). 6 of the 9 sector categories advanced.

298 cannabis companies have securities that actively trade on the various stock exchanges in Canada and the United States of which 39 (just 13% of the total) trade for at least US$1/share and, as such, are included in my proprietary Non-penny Pot Stock Index (NPSI).

Below are the price changes on the day for the few constituents that either advanced or declined by 5% or more from Friday:

The Biggest Winners

  1. Innovative Industrial Properties Inc. (IIPR) +6.9%
  2. Aphria Inc. (APHA) +5.0%

The Biggest Losers

  1. Acreage (ACRGF) -5.8%
  2. Canopy Growth (CGC) -5.1%

Notable Mention

  • HEXO (HEXO) -7% (a former constituent but now trading below US$1/share.)
  • With the 19% increase in the average cannabis stock in May (see detail here) 5 additional companies began trading in excess of US$1/share and, therefore, are technically illegible to be included in the NPSI (4 Micro-Cap i.e.US$50M to US$300M and 1 Nano-Cap i.e. less than US$50M). If any of these stocks are still trading above US$1/share at the end of the month they will be added to the NPSI. The stocks in question are: Canopy Rivers Inc. (CNPOF); Jushi Holdings Inc. (JUSHF); KushCo Holdings Inc. (KSHB); Canafarma Hemp Products Corp. (CNFA) and EGF Theramed Health Corp. (EVAHF)

Further details regarding the current constituents of the NPSI are as follows:

  • 2 trade above US$20/share,
  • 6 trade between US$10 and US$20/share,
  • 9 trade between US$5 and US$10/share and
  • 22 trade between US$1 and US$5/share. (The official definition of a "penny" stock is one that trades below US$5/share but, when it comes to pot stocks, that is where 87% of the total universe trades, so the more literal definition of stocks that trade for less than US$1/share is used.)

The market capitalization makeup of the NPSI (calculated by multiplying the number of a company's shares outstanding by its stock price per share) is as follows:

  • Large-Cap (+US$10B): 0
  • Mid-Cap (US$2B to US$10B): 3
  • Small-Cap (US$300M to US$2B): 13
  • Micro-Cap (US$50M to US$300M): 19
  • Nano-Cap (Less than US$50M): 4
