Today we had good news from lots of our shares starting with Barclays BCS which upped its guidance to £15 bn for the year from £12 bn. It rose over 3% here in Britain. Qualcomm QCOM reported an 8%+ gain in the March quarter and hit $146.36. Thermo electron had strong Q1 revenues but lower EPS at 57 cents. Nokia NOK declared a 23cents dividend, and its sales were up 80 mn euros to 25.35 bn. Eli Lilly LLY gained 2.4%. Merck MRK rose 4.3%, Zymeworks ZYME by 1,23%, and Cemex CX by 4%.
However, Plug Power PLUG and Nokia both lost over 5%. Sampo Oyj SAXPY is selling its Nordea shares, also gaining as a result. It rose 1.9%.
Losers included Banco Santander SAN down 2.5% and Schlumberger also down 2.5% although both gained a lot in the current quarter.
The bad news is that our SEC says VALE deliberately misled investors about the risks of its dam collapse last year.
