Now the October numbers. After two strong months for equities, October was mixed: ten of our 23 strategies finished the month in positive territory, one was flat, and twelve were lower.

What Happened
A Record Early, a Rout at the End
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq both set record highs in the first week of October. Then the AI trade cracked. Disappointing results from Alphabet and Amazon, plus a weak outlook from Intel, put the spotlight on how much Big Tech is spending on AI. On the last trading day of the month the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.8%, its worst day since early June, and Intel dropped roughly 29%, its worst day since 1974. The Nasdaq finished October down 5.3%, its worst month since March 2025.
Against that backdrop, the Nasdaq 100 Strategy gained 4.9%. A strategy named after an index is not the index: its rules decide what it holds, and that is exactly what a rules-based approach is for. The Dow 30 Strategy added 2.6% and keeps the YTD lead at +17.4%. The gold-currency strategies also finished positive.
The damage was concentrated in leverage and crypto. The 3x and 2x Universal Investment variants and Maximum Yield all lost ground, and Crypto & Leveraged Top 2 fell 8.1%. On October 29 and 30 hackers drained an estimated $6.3 billion from Binance, the largest crypto theft on record, and Bitcoin dropped on the news. That landed on a market already pressured by higher rates, so the hack explains part of the month, not all of it.
Looking Ahead
November: Two Dates to Watch
The Fed. On October 28 the Federal Reserve held rates at 3.75% to 4.00% after September’s hike, with a 10-2 vote: two members wanted to raise again. Markets are pricing a good chance of a hike at the next meeting on December 9, which matters for bond-sensitive and leveraged strategies.
The midterms. US elections are on Tuesday, November 3, with the whole House and 35 Senate seats up. Elections can move markets, or not. We are not forecasting either way.
We do not know which of these will matter, and neither does anyone else. Investors need a plan and the flexibility to change it. Our strategies and QuantTrader are built to give you both.
