Gold (XAU/USD) remains in consolidation as markets await the Federal Reserve meeting minutes for fresh direction. Softer US labor data and mild inflation readings have reduced expectations for a September rate increase and provided support for gold. However, rising oil prices and elevated Treasury yields remain key risks. Geopolitical uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz has also increased inflation concerns. Markets will now focus on the Fed minutes for clearer signals on the outlook for interest rates.
Gold Consolidates as Markets Await Fed Minutes and Policy Signals
Gold remains in consolidation as markets await the Federal Open Market Committee meeting minutes. Recent US labor market data and mild inflation readings have reduced expectations for a September rate increase. Markets now see about a 35% probability of a rate increase at the September 16-17 meeting. That figure stood near 50% earlier. The shift in expectations has provided support for gold.
The Fed minutes could provide more detail on the policy debate under Chair Kevin Warsh. The FOMC voted 9-3 to keep interest rates unchanged at 3.50%-3.75% at its July meeting. Warsh also maintained his focus on price stability. Markets will now assess whether policymakers remain comfortable with keeping rates unchanged. A less restrictive policy outlook could weigh on the US Dollar and Treasury yields. This could provide additional support for gold.
However, inflation concerns remain important. Oil prices climbed as uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz increased concerns about energy supplies. President Donald Trump said there were no talks with Iran and maintained that the Strait was open. Iran said the waterway remained closed to shipping. Rising energy prices could keep inflation concerns elevated and support higher Treasury yields. This could limit gold’s gains. A stronger focus on inflation in the Fed minutes could also increase expectations for a September rate increase.
Gold Technical Analysis: Former Wedge Resistance Emerges as Key Support
The gold chart below shows a large ascending wedge that guided price action over several years. Gold remained within the wedge before breaking above the resistance trendline. The breakout triggered a strong advance and pushed price sharply higher. This move showed a clear acceleration after gold moved beyond the wedge structure.

Gold later reversed from the high and declined toward the former wedge resistance trendline. Price found support near this trendline and turned higher. This reaction confirms that the former wedge resistance is now acting as an important support area. Gold is currently trading above this trendline, keeping the larger price structure positive.
The chart also shows several rounded bottoms that developed below the $2,000 area before the major advance. Gold broke above this resistance and accelerated higher. The latest reaction from the wedge trendline adds further importance to the current support. Holding above this trendline could support further gains. A move below it would weaken the current technical outlook.
Gold Outlook: Fed Signals and Geopolitical Risks Remain in Focus
Gold remains supported as markets await the Fed minutes for clearer policy signals. Softer US labor data and mild inflation readings have reduced expectations for a September rate increase, while rising oil prices and Treasury yields could limit gains. The reaction from the former wedge resistance has also supported the technical outlook. Holding above this trendline could support further gains. Markets will now focus on the Fed minutes, interest rate expectations, and developments around the Strait of Hormuz for the next direction.
