Gold (XAU/USD) remains supported as markets assess rising Treasury yields, higher oil prices, and geopolitical uncertainty. Higher yields have added pressure to the precious metal, while tensions in the Middle East continue to support demand for defensive assets. Softer US economic data has also reduced expectations for tighter Federal Reserve policy. Markets now await upcoming US data and Fed meeting minutes for further direction.

Gold Remains Supported Despite Rising Treasury Yields and Oil Prices

Gold is consolidating after two consecutive days of gains. Higher US Treasury yields have added pressure to the precious metal. The 30-year Treasury yield climbed to 5.321% early Tuesday, reaching its highest level since 2007. The increase followed a sharp rise in oil prices. Higher yields can reduce the appeal of gold because the metal does not provide interest income. However, uncertainty over the economic and policy outlook may limit further weakness.

Middle East developments remain an important driver. US President Donald Trump said he was not interested in renewing the expiring agreement with Iran. The United States also maintained its naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. The lack of progress toward ending the conflict has pushed oil prices higher and renewed concerns about energy supply. Higher energy prices can increase inflation concerns and keep Treasury yields elevated. At the same time, geopolitical uncertainty can increase demand for defensive assets and provide support for gold.

Markets are also assessing the Federal Reserve outlook. The probability of a September rate increase has fallen to about 30%, compared with roughly 50% one week earlier, according to the CME FedWatch Tool. Softer US economic data has reduced expectations for tighter monetary policy. However, concerns about US fiscal conditions and a steeper yield curve remain important. Markets now await US housing and industrial data, while Fed meeting minutes could provide more detail on the policy outlook. Any shift in rate expectations could influence gold’s next direction.

Gold Extends Recovery After Breaking Key Channel Resistance

The gold chart below shows price trading within a descending channel that has guided price action over recent months. Price repeatedly faced resistance near the upper channel line before turning lower and extending the decline within the channel. Each recovery attempt remained confined within the parallel trendlines. This structure kept gold under downward pressure.

The recent rally changed that structure. Gold moved decisively above channel resistance. Price then crossed the horizontal resistance area near $4,330. It is now holding above this level after completing the breakout.

The next move will provide important technical confirmation. Holding above $4,330 would keep the channel breakout intact and support further gains. Gold could then challenge the recent high and extend toward $4,500. In contrast, a sustained move below the breakout level would weaken the current technical outlook.

Gold Outlook: Fed Expectations and Geopolitical Risks Could Shape the Next Move

Gold remains supported despite pressure from higher Treasury yields and rising oil prices. Geopolitical uncertainty continues to support demand for defensive assets, while softer US data has reduced expectations for tighter Fed policy. The channel breakout has also strengthened the technical outlook. Holding above $4,330 could support further gains toward $4,500. Markets will now focus on upcoming US data, Fed meeting minutes, and Middle East developments for the next direction.
