5 Steps for Building a Solid Crypto Position

If you're new to crypto, here are five steps for investing the right way...

Investing in cryptocurrency has taken the world by storm, with currencies like Bitcoin seeing record highs in recent months. However, while many people have rushed into the market to get their foot in the door, not everyone knows what they're doing, and many novices have made some serious mistakes.

If you're new to crypto, here are five steps for investing the right way.

1: Keep Up-To-Date on Crypto

Before you even think about investing in crypto, make sure you understand the market you're investing in. Keep up to speed with market developments, price levels, and investor activity.

Sites like cryptoholics.com are a great way to read all the crypto news in one place and follow the insight and advice of top experts in the field. In addition, resources like Investopedia are great at explaining unfamiliar investment terminology and crypto jargon if you're new to the investing world.

2: Choose Your Crypto Exchange Platform

Choosing your crypto exchange platform is no small matter. There are dozens of different options out there, and they each vary in their prices and offerings.

Shop around for the widest range of digital currencies available on the exchange platform, as well as the lowest fees they charge for buying and selling crypto before you decide if the platform is right for you.

In addition, have a look into the history of the exchange platform more generally. Where is it headquartered? Who runs it? Has it ever got into any controversy or had a run-in with the law?

Many crypto exchange platforms are new, and the law around them is still in development. Getting answers to these questions could help you make the right choices.

3: Choose Your Cryptocurrency

From Bitcoin (BITCOMP) to Dogecoin (DOGE-X), there's a huge range of cryptocurrencies available to invest in. Each one has its own merits and demerits.

Don't just pick a currency because you've heard Elon Musk tweet favorable things about it. Instead, look deeper into the currency — who made it, when, how and where it was made, and how big the total currency stock is.

You'll also want to know whether the technology that runs the currency has wider applications, like blockchain uses, that could increase its value.

4: Choose Your Strategy

Once you're set on a cryptocurrency, it's time to decide what your investment strategy will be.

You could choose to take a long position, where you build up a large holding over a long period of time, irrespective of whether there are price fluctuations along the way.

Alternatively, you could opt for shorter positions, where you enter and exit the market when you think price levels are heading in the right or wrong direction.

Each strategy comes with its own risks, and you need to decide which ones you're comfortable with. You also need to decide how much time you're prepared to spend making investments – it takes a lot less effort to build up a long position, for example.

5: Build Your Position

Once you're satisfied you've completed those first 4 steps, it's time to build your crypto position. Don't invest all your money in one day. Instead, build your position up over a period of time, making sure you're comfortable with how the system works and that your strategy is working effectively.

Final Thoughts

With investing, the numbers will look like they're only going to keep rising…until there's a sudden blow. So remember always to spend time evaluating the risks and costs of your investment lest you make any decisions you might later regret.
