Introduction

Of the 20 stock categories that I follow (see articles here), 4 declined in excess of 20% in November, another 3 by at least 10%, and 8 by lesser amounts, leaving only 5 categories that actually increased. This article highlights the performances of the 4 categories that declined in November, in descending order, and their constituents, and the reasons behind the category declines.

The 4 Categories That Declined More Than 20%

  1. Pure-play Quantum Computing Stocks Portfolio:  DOWN 31.9% in November; UP 33.3% YTD
    • Constituent Returns: RGTI (-42,2%); QBTS (-38.8%); QUBT (-30.0%); IONQ (-21.1%)
    • Reason(s) for Decline: Because investors:
      • reassessed their lofty valuations,
      • worried about dilution from repeated capital raises,
      • reacted to skepticism about commercialization timelines, and
      • were concerned about the sector’s
        • speculative nature,
        • high R&D costs, and
        • comparisons to the much larger AI market which amplified the pullback.
    • Article of Interest:
  2. Pure-play Plant-based Food Stocks Portfolio: DOWN 26.8% in November; DOWN 23.5% YTD
    • Constituent Returns: GUROF (-19.9%); OTLY (-21.8%); BYND (-41.0); LSF (-44.6%)
    • Reason(s) for Decline:
      • Because of shrinking sales, cash burn, and consumer fatigue
  3. AI-focused Pure-play Drug Discovery Stocks Portfolio: DOWN 24.9% in November; DOWN 6.3% YTD
    • Constituent Returns: RXRX (-16.1%); ABSI (-25.9%); ABCL (-32.8%)
    • Reason(s) for Decline:
      • Because of valuation fears across the AI sector, uncertain commercialization timelines for AI‑driven drug pipelines, and heavy cash burn with dilution risk. The sell‑off was part of a broader AI correction, but drug discovery names were hit harder due to their speculative nature and lack of near‑term revenue visibility
    • Article of Interest:
  4. Cannabis MSO Stocks Portfolio: DOWN 23.7% in November; DOWN 4.6% YTD
    • Constituent Returns: GTBIF (-15.9%); CURLF (-19.1%); TCNNF (-25.7%); VRNO (-33.1%); CRLBF (-37.2%)
    • Reason(s) for Decline:
      • Because of regulatory setbacks in Washington, continued sector‑wide financial struggles, and investor fatigue after years of losses.
