There are 2 components to our hedged portfolio method: 1) Selecting securities that we estimate are likely to do well over the next six months, relative to the cost of hedging them. 2)Hedging them in case we end up being wrong about them doing well. 

The consumer may be alive, but is not well. Repeatedly, large retailers are recording very poor earnings and subdued forward guidance.
