Many are keeping hostages themselves, and when hostages escaped from Hamas, they were returned to Hamas by Gazan civilians.
And while I'm no fan of Israel, Hamas has openly called for the genocide of not only Jews, but Christians as well. And that once Israel is gone, they will come after America and other Western countries. Seems to me, they deserve what they get and Israel is doing us a favor by fighting them for us.
