The Art Market In A Muck

Shocking but not surprising. I guess there are a few simple steps to take before investing in art. The most obvious that spring to mind are: 1. Never buy online, but only in person, and 2.Never hand over your money until you do a thorough independent appraisal with a reputable company.

The Importance Of The Next Few Days For The Market
10 years ago

Thanks for your article. I think that the market as a whole is affected by so many different variables that its virtually impossible to predict the future based on a few days of performance. Perhaps for some readers whats more relevant are the factors that affect stock prices since these are more tangible eg earnings, m & a, management changes etc. But in terms of market influences, I would say that the following ten are more important to consider than a few days of analysis: World events, state of the economy (perceived or real), scandals, company news, hype, politics, supply/demand, natural disasters, expectations vs speculation, war and terrorism.

Media Sees Record Low Unemployment Claims As All Good- Here’s Why It’s Not

The monthly unemployment numbers are an important economic indicator for the health of the economy, but what they don't show is the increasing number of people who are underemployed, or working only part time. The following link shows a chart that includes underemployed and part timers, as well as the traditionally unemployed. www.stateofworkingamerica.org/.../number-of-underemployed/

This Isn’t Investing… It’s Russian Roulette

Perhaps the U.S should look at how other countries have dealt with their debt problems. From what I have read, Canada faced a nearly double-digit budget deficit in the 1990s. It instituted deep budget cuts of 20% or more within four years and succeeded in reducing its budget deficit to zero within three years, and cut its public debt by one-third within five years. Canada did all this without raising taxes. Politics aside, is this something that could be done in the U.S?

Why The Price Of Oil Is Finally Declining And Why It Will Lead To Disaster
10 years ago

In the context of oil prices having dropped around forty percent since June, and many paying less than $2/gallon of gas in the US, Obama says "when it comes to gas prices, what goes down must come up." He said this to the Detroit News prior to a visit to the Ford factory yesterday in Michigan. Question is, is he stating this out of his plans for slowing oil production in the US shale fields or as a passive spectator?

PSX hit a high of 87.51 on Sept 4, but then began a steep decline down to 65.09 on Dec 15. A few days later, Deutsche Bank upgraded the stock from Hold to Buy, but lowered its target price down from $101 to $92, and selected the company a "Top Pick".

Do you feel it will pull back to $90 given enough time?
