First, Unity runs lots of activities, unrelated to its Daily Word. This is how they make their money, albeit presenting Unity as a church.
Second, offering the Daily Word for free would cost them nothing. Put bluntly, they use it as a "hook" to sell other revenue-producing activities.
Third, it is an affront to God to charge anything for such inspirational messages.
Fourth, if ONE homeless person or marginally-homeless person was inspired by reading the Daily Word (e.g., to abstain from drugs or crime), the efforts would have been worthwhile.
