Stocks Mixed As Defense Sector Charges Higher

Stocks are mixed midday, as investors continue to unpack this morning's flurry of economic data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) is sporting a 267-point lead, looking to recover a portion of yesterday's sharp losses, while the S&P 500 Index (SPX) hovers around fair value, and the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) drops triple digits as investors rotate out of tech. Defense stocks are surging after President Trump called for a $1.5 trillion defense budget in 2027, while oil prices are rebounding as well.

Serve Robotics Inc (NASDAQ: SERVis one of the most popular stocks amongst options traders today. So far, 51,000 calls and 8,612 puts have been exchanged -- seven times SERV's average daily options volume. The weekly 1/9 15-strike call is the most popular, followed by the January 2026 18-strike call, with new positions opening at the latter. At last glance, the equity was up 16.4% at $15.69, on track for its seventh consecutive win as the physical AI play gains steam. 

Biotech stock Enliven Therapeutics Inc (Nasdaq: ELVN) is soaring to 52-week highs, up 43.6% at $22.22 at last glance. The company announced positive initial data for a Phase 1b trial for its leukemia treatment, ELVN-001. Year over year, the shares are now holding on to a 2.5% gain. 

The top S&P 500 stock of 2025Western Digital Corp (Nasdaq: WDCis sharply lower today. Profit taking appears to be putting a damper on the stock, which was last seen down 8.6% at $182.63 today, extending a pullback from its Jan. 6 record high of $221.23. The shares have also landed on the short sell restricted (SSR) list amid the volatility. Still, WDC is up roughly 6% since the start of 2026.
