Google Unveils AI-Powered NotebookLM: The Future Of Note-Taking

  ↵

The thirst for personalized intelligent tools is intensifying. Enter Google’s NotebookLM, which Google says you can think of as a virtual research assistant that can summarize facts, explain complex ideas, and brainstorm new connections – all based on the sources you select.

At its core, NotebookLM lets you use Google Docs to create a personalized AI tool that can understand and assist in making sense of your notes and data. It provides a range of functions, including summarizing documents, answering user queries, and even creating new content based on the selected information. Google says that NotebookLM assures data privacy because it doesn’t share your data or use it to train new AI models.

Interestingly, NotebookLM’s citation feature allows for instant fact-checking of auto-generated responses. However, Google advises that – like any AI – NotebookLM is not infallible and may “hallucinate,” offering inaccurate information based on the data provided.

I’m not sure if Google is leading or following. The idea of seamlessly integrating AI into every product is an approach I expect from every tech company, but that doesn’t mean that you should wait until the tools are everywhere.
