Dropbox Adds AI-Powered Search
Dropbox (DBX) is integrating AI into its platform with two new services. The first is a document summarization and querying tool. The second, Dash, is a universal search engine that scans files in Dropbox and across the web.
Developed from the company’s 2021 acquisition of Command E, Dash aspires to be a personal Google, organizing not just files and folders but also personal files from across the web, such as Google Docs and Sheets, Airtable, Figma, and more.
Dash has a desktop app and a browser extension. The desktop app serves as a universal search for your device and connected apps.
An innovative feature of Dash is the introduction of “Stacks.” Moving beyond the traditional files-in-folders approach, Stacks are hybrid collections of files, both personally curated and algorithmically enhanced, offering a more flexible way of organizing digital content.
Because this use case is so obvious – there’s plenty of competition like Mem, Rewind, and Google, to name a few – Dash is probably table stakes for Dropbox. That said, I’m excited to try the service. You can get on the waitlist here.
