A.P. Moller Maersk A/S, known by the ticker symbol AMKBY, is a large-cap marine shipping company, operating in the industrials business sector. This is my first report on A.P. Moller Maersk for this Viital portfolio or any of my previous six portfolios.
A.P. Moller-Maersk is a Denmark-listed global conglomerate involved in global trade, shipping, and energy.
Maersk Line, the largest contributor to group revenue and earnings, has been the largest container shipping company globally for more than 20 years. Maersk was founded in 1904 and has since been run by the Moller-Maersk family, which currently holds slightly more than 50% of the share capital.
The group has been active over the past few years in divesting noncore operations, such as its long-standing stakes in Danske Bank and Dansk Supermarket as well as its oil and gas operations.
Its Logistics & Services segment offers sea and air freight forwarding, supply chain management, cold chain logistics, and custom services, What remains are four segments: The Ocean segment engages in container shipping activities, including demurrage and detention, terminal handling, documentation and container services, and container storage, as well as transshipment services.
The company's Terminals & Towage segment is involved in Gateway terminal activities, and offshore towage, salvage and related marine activities.
Finally, a Manufacturing & Others segment engages in the production of reefer containers; anchor handling tug supply vessels and subsea support vessels, and training services to the maritime, oil and gas, offshore wind, and crane industries
The company, is based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
AMKBY Dividends
Three key data points gauge any dividend equity or fund such as A.P. Moller Maersk A/S (AMKBY):
(1) Price
(2) Dividends
(3) Returns
Those three basic keys best tell whether any company has made, is making, and will make money.
AMKBY Price
Maersk's price per share was $17.06 as of yesterday's market close. One year ago its price was $11.98. Therefore, Maersk's share price rose $5.08 or about 42.4% in the past year.
If Maersk's's stock trades in the range of $12.00 to $21.00 this next year, its recent $17.06 share price might rise by $0.94 to reach $18.00 by March 18, 2023. My $0.94 estimate is $0.06 under the average annual share price increase over the past ten years.
A.P. Moller Maersk's most recently declared annual dividend of $1.92 per share is payable April 4th, to shareholders on record as of March 1st. The AMKBY annual dividend payout per share of $1.92 yields 11.27% per share at yesterday's $17.06 closing price.
A.P. Moller Maersk A/S has paid variable annual dividend payouts since May 3, 2012. That stretch will mark 10 years in May.
AMKBY Returns
Adding the $1.92 Moeller Maersk past year dividend to the estimated one-year price upside of $0.94 shows a $2.86 potential gross gain, per share, to be reduced by any costs to trade A.P. Moller Maersk A/S shares.
At yesterday's $17.06 price per share, a little over $1000 would buy 59 shares.
A $10 broker fee (if charged) would be paid half at purchase and half at sale and might cost us about $0.17 per share.
Subtract that maybe $0.17 brokerage cost from my estimated $2.86 gross gain estimate per share results in a net gain of $2.69 X 59 shares = $158.71 for a 15.85% net gain on a $1,007.72 investment.
So it is that A.P. Moller Maersk A/S shows a possible 15.85% net gain including an 11.27% past year dividend yield.
Over the next year at this time our $1000 investment in A.P. Moller Maersk A/S could generate $112.70 in cash dividends alone. Note that a single share of AMKBY stock bought at yesterday's single share price of $17.06 is over 6.5 times less than the dividend income from our $1000.00 invested. So, by my dogcatcher ideal, now IS the time to buy A.P. Moller Maersk A/S shares. The estimated next-year dividend from $1K invested is 6.6 times greater than yesterday's single share price. Consider yourself alerted. Its a sign!
All of the estimates above are speculation based on the past history of A.P. Moller Maersk A/S (AMKBY). Only time and money invested in this stock will determine its market value.
