Daily Stock Pick: NN Inc

A portfolio of stocks I'm building, named Ivy, holds 52 dividend dogs. Ivy is the fourth portfolio I've built (at a one dividend dog per week pace) since 2014. Four portfolios = IV!

Today I'm reviewing the third of five industrials sector stocks this week striving to become the seventh of eight from that sector to join the Ivy folio.

That industrials sector includes twenty-three industries all related to designing, fabricating and servicing stuff we want and use. The industrials industries range from aerospace and defense to waste management with all the transportation, business services, and equipment required in between.

Today I'm reviewing a small-cap tools and accessories company named NN Inc. Their trading ticker symbol is NNBR.

NN Inc diversified industrial company that combines advanced engineering and production capabilities with in-depth materials science expertise to design and manufacture high-precision solutions, and components.

It operates in three business segments: mobile solutions, power solutions, and life sciences. Mobile solutions segment involves growth in the general industrial and automotive end markets. Power solutions segment involves growth in the electrical and aerospace and defense end markets. Life sciences segment involves growth in the medical end market.

The majority of its revenue is generated from mobile solutions segment in the United States region. It also operates in China, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, and other countries.

NN, Inc. was founded in 1980 and is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

I use three key data points to gauge dividend-paying equities or funds like NN Inc:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Besides those three, several other keys will finally unlock an equity or fund in which to invest.

Those three basic keys, however, best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

NNBR Price

NN's price per share closed at $6.74  yesterday. A year ago its price was $21.35. Price fell  $14.61 or  68.4% in the past year.

Assuming NN's stock trades in the range of $5.00 to $15.00 this year, NN's recent $6.74 price could rise by $3.26 and go to $10.00 by August 2020.

NNBR Dividends

NN's most recent quarterly dividend was $0.225 paid July 11th

That $0.07 Q payout equates to an annual dividend of $0.28 generating a yield of 4.15% based on yesterday's $6.74 closing price.

Gains For NNBR?

Adding the $0.28 annual estimated dividend to my $3.26 estimate of NN's price upside shows a $3.54 potential gross annual gain, per share, which will be reduced by costs to trade those shares.

Say we pay a little under $1,000.00 today at the $6.74 recent stock price, we'd buy 148 NN Inc (NNBR) shares.

A $10 broker fee paid half at purchase and half at sale will cost us $0.07 per share.

Subtract that $0.07 brokerage cost from the estimated $3.54 gross annual gain leaves a net gain of $3.47 X 148 shares = $513.56 or a 51.4% net gain on a $997.52 investment.

Therefore, NN Inc whose trading ticker symbol is NNBR now shows a possible net gain of 51.4% including a 4.15% dividend yield.

Six brokers track NN Inc stock:

Two say "buy" NNBR.

Two say NNBR will "outperform" peers.

Two say "Hold" NNBR.

Their consensus score of 2.00 equates to "Outperform."

Now we can look at NN Inc and see it has made money, is making money, and could net a 51.4% gain including a 4.15% dividend yield. It could be more, it could be less.

The above speculation is based on past year performance. The actual results remain to be seen to learn if NN Inc is worth your time and money.
