Daily Stock Pick: Community Trust Bancorp

A portfolio of stocks I've been building since September 3, 2019, named Volio, will eventually hold 52 dividend dogs. Volio is the fifth portfolio I've built (at a one dividend dog per-week pace) since 2014. Five portfolios = V for Volio!

Today I'm reviewing the second of five financial services sector stocks poised to join my Volio folio this week. One could be my forty-sixth pick for Volio!

That financial services sector includes twenty industries ranging from Asset Management to 8 kinds of Banks, Credit, Exchanges, 6 kinds of Insurance, Savings, and all such financial concerns.

My subject today is a small-cap US regional bank from Kentucky named, Community Trust Bancorp Inc. Its trading ticker is CTBI. This is my first report on Community Trust Bancorp Inc for this Volio portfolio.

Community Trust Bancorp Inc is a bank holding company providing commercial and personal banking and trust and wealth management activities. The company has one operating segment, community banking services.

The company operates 79 banking locations in eastern, northeastern, central, south-central Kentucky, southern West Virginia, and northeastern Tennessee; 4 trust offices in Kentucky; and 1 trust office in Tennessee.

Community Trust Bancorp, Inc. was founded in 1903 and is headquartered in Pikeville, Kentucky.

I use three key data points to gauge dividend equities or funds like Community Trust Bancorp Inc:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Those three basic keys best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

CTBI Price

Community's price per share closed at $30.69 yesterday. A year ago their price was $41.81. Price fell $11.12 or just under 26.6% last year.

Assuming Community's stock trades in the range of $25 to $35 this next year, its recent $30.69 price might rise by $2.31 to reach $33.00 by July 13, 2021.

CTBI Dividends

Community's most recent declared quarterly dividend was $0.38, paid July 1st. That $0.38 Q dividend equates to $1.52 annually for a yield of 4.95% at yesterday's $30.69 share price.

CTBI Gains?

Adding the $1.52 annual estimated dividend to my $2.31 optimistic estimate of Community Trust Bancorp Inc price upside shows a $3.83 potential gross gain, per share, to be reduced by any costs to trade the shares.

If we put little over $1,000.00 today in Community Trust Bancorp Inc we would buy 33 shares of CTBI stock.

A $10 broker fee paid half at purchase and half at sale could cost us about $0.30 per share.

Subtract that $0.30 brokerage cost from my estimated $3.83 gross gain per share results in a net gain of $3.53 X 33 shares = $116.49 for an 11.6% net gain on a $1,012.77 Investment.

Thus, Community Trust Bancorp Inc shows a possible 11.6% net gain including a 4.95% dividend yield. It could be more, it could be less.

The above speculation is based on past performance and supposition. Only time and money invested will tell if Community Trust Bancorp Inc is worth it.
