Daily Stock Analysis: Verizon Communications

Verizon Communications Inc, known by the ticker symbol VZ is a Large-cap telecom services firm, operating in the communication services business sector. This is my first ever report on VZ for this Viital portfolio I did select VZ for one of my previous six folios.
Verizon is primarily a wireless business (nearly 80% of revenue and nearly all operating income). It serves about 93 million postpaid and 24 million prepaid phone customers (following the acquisition of Tracfone) via its nationwide network, making it the largest U.S. wireless carrier. Fixed-line telecom operations include local networks in the Northeast, which reach about 25 million homes and businesses, and nationwide enterprise services.
The company was formerly known as Bell Atlantic Corporation and changed its name to Verizon Communications Inc. in June 2000. Verizon Communications Inc. was incorporated in 1983 and is headquartered in New York, New York.
Three key data points gauge any dividend equity or fund such as Verizon Communications Inc (VZ).
(1) Price
(2) Dividends
(3) Returns
Those three basic keys best tell whether any company has made, is making, and will make money.
VZ Price
Verizon’s price per share was $50.81 as of Friday's market close. One year ago its price was $57.20. Therefore, Verizon’s share price fell by $6.39 or about 11%% in the past year.
If Verizon’s stock trades in the range of $45.00 to $60.00 this next year, its recent $50.81 share price might rise by $4.19 to reach $55.00 by June 6, 2023. My $4.19 upside estimate is $2.97 under the median of annual price increases calculated by twenty-four analysts covering VZ for broker firms.
VZ Dividends
Verizon’s most recently declared a quarterly dividend of $0.64 is payable, on August 1, 2022, to shareholders on record as of July 7th.
VZ initiated a quarterly $0.02 dividend as of February 1, 1986. The dividend has increased generally annually to $0.64 as of October 2021 where it has remained including May’s quarterly payout. Its forward-looking payouts now equate to $2.56 annually and that annual payout is calculated to deliver a 5.04% annual yield per yesterday’s $50.81 share price.
VZ Returns
Adding the $2.56 VZ annual dividend to my estimated one-year price upside of $4.19 estimate shows a $6.75 potential gross gain, per share, to be reduced by any costs to trade VZ shares.
At Friday's $50.81 closing price per share, a little over $1000 would buy 20 shares.
A $10 broker fee (if charged) would be paid half at purchase and half at the sale and might cost us $0.50 per share.
Subtract that maybe $0.50 brokerage cost from my estimated $6.75 gross gain estimate per share results in a net gain of $6.25 X 20 shares = $125.00 for a 12.5% net gain including a 5.04% forward-looking dividend yield.
So is that Verizon Communications Inc shows a possible 12.5% net gain including a 5.04% forward-looking dividend yield.
Over the next year at this time, our $1000 investment in Verizon Communications Inc shares might generate $50.40 in cash dividends. Of course, a single share of VZ stock bought at yesterday's $50.81 price is $0.41 over the dividend income from our $1000.00 investment.
So, by my dogcatcher ideal, this is almost a good time to pick up Verizon Communications Inc shares based on their forward-looking dividends for the year 2022. The forthcoming annual dividends from $1K invested are just $0.42 less than yesterday's single share price. Consider yourself alerted. It's a sign. Wait for Verizon’s price to drop below $50.60. Probably sometime this week or next.
All of the estimates above are speculation based on the past history of Verizon Communications Inc (VZ). Only time and money invested in this stock will determine its market value.
