Daily Stock Analysis: TFS Financial Corporation

TFS Financial Corp, known by the ticker symbol TFSL, is a mid cap Ohio regional bank in the financial services business sector. This is my first report on TFSL for my Viital stock portfolio. I have not reviewed TFSL since June 22 when I considered it the second time for the 42nd slot in my Vista portfolio (the sixth of seven portfolios I've collected so far).

TFS Financial Corp is the holding company for the Third Federal Savings and Loan Association of Cleveland.

The company's ownership in the savings and loan association is its primary business activity. The association's principal business consists of originating and servicing residential real estate mortgage loans and attracting retail savings deposits.

It does so by offering products with competitive rates and yields. The company also operates Third Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary that serves as a holding company or as an investor in vehicles such as private equity funds.

Third Capital has interests in lease transactions of commercial buildings, title agencies providing escrow and settlement services, and reinsurance of private mortgage insurance on residential loans.

The company provides its products and services through its main office in Cleveland, Ohio; and 37 full-service branches and 7 loan production offices located throughout the states of Ohio and Florida. The company was founded in 1938 and is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio.

Three key data points gauge any dividend equity or fund such as TFS Financial Corp (TFSL):

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Those three basic keys best tell whether any company has made, is making, and will make money.

TFSL Price

TFSL's price per share was $17.67 as of yesterday's market close. One year ago its price was $17.65 Thus, Northwest's share price rose just two cents in past year.

If TFSL's stock trades in the range of $16.00 to $24.00 this next year, its recent $17.67 share price might rise by $3.33 to reach $21.00 by December 24 2022. My estimate is in line with the median of 1yr price estimates from the two analysts who track the stock for brokerages.

TFSL Dividends

TFSL's most recent quarterly dividend of  $0.2825 was paid out December 14th, to shareholders of record on November 29th. That dividend and those to come are estimated equal to $1.13 annually and yield 6.4% per yesterday's $17.67 closing price.

TFS Financial Corp (TFSL) has paid quarterly dividends increasing annually since March 10, 2008. That will be 14 years come March.

TFSL Returns

Adding the $1.13 annual estimated TFS Financial Corp forward-looking dividend to my $3.33 price upside estimate shows a $4.46 potential gross gain, per share, to be reduced by any costs to trade TFSL shares.

At yesterday's $17.67 price per share, a little over $1000 would buy 57 shares.

A $10 broker fee (if charged) would be paid half at purchase and half at sale and might cost us about $0.18 per share.

Subtract that maybe $0.18 brokerage cost from my estimated $4.46 gross gain per share results in a net gain of $4.28 X 57 shares = $243.96 for a 24.3% net gain on a $1,007.19  investment.

So is that TFS Financial Corp (TFSL)  shows a possible 24.3% net gain including a 6.4% forward estimated dividend yield.

Over the next year at this time, a $1000 investment in TFS Financial Corp (TFSL) could generate $64.00 in cash dividends alone. Note that a single share of TFSL stock bought at yesterday's closing price was $17.67. Therefore, TFSL  share price is more than three and a half times below the dividend income from $1000.00 invested. Thus, according to my dogcatcher ideal, now is a prime time to pickup TFS Financial Corp (TFSL) shares. The estimated next-year dividend from $1K invested is 3.62 times TFSL's single share price. Consider yourself alerted. Its a sign!

All of the estimates above are speculation based on the past history of TFS Financial Corp (TFSL) Only time and money invested in this stock will determine its market value.
