Daily Stock Analysis: Kimball International (KBAL)

The new portfolio of stocks I started building on September 8, named Vista, will select its third stock this coming weekend. Vista is the sixth portfolio I've built (at a one dividend dog per-week pace) since 2014. Six portfolios = VI for Vista!

Vista is planned to Look Ahead for Outstanding, Proven, Dividend Winners. (Like Aristocrats)

Today we'll review the third of five industrials sector stock candidates vying to be the third selection in the Vista portfolio.

My subject today is a commercial furniture company named, Kimball International Inc. Its trading ticker symbol is KBAL. This is my first ever report on Kimball International Inc. (KBAL) for any of my dog of the week portfolios.

Kimball International Inc operates in the furniture manufacturing business. The company consolidated its furniture business and manufactures office and hospitality furniture exclusively.

The company's core market areas include commercial, hospitality, healthcare, education, government, and finance. The firm's furniture brand portfolio comprises of Kimball, National, and Kimball Hospitality.

It markets and sells its products through sales representatives, office furniture dealers, wholesalers, brokers, designers, purchasing companies, and catalog houses to end-users.

The company was formerly known as The Jasper Corporation and changed its name to Kimball International, Inc. in July 1974.

Kimball International, Inc. was incorporated in 1939 and is headquartered in Jasper, Indiana.

I use three key data points to gauge dividend equities or funds like Kimball International Inc. (KBAL):

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Those three basic keys best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

KBAL Price

Kimbal's price per share closed at $11.16 yesterday. A year ago its price was $19.63. Price fell by $8.47 or just over 43% last year.

If Kimball's stock trades in the range of $9 to $16 this next year, its recent $11.16 price might rise by $1.84 to reach $13.00 by September 23, 2021.

KBAL Dividends

Kimball's most recently declared quarterly dividend was $0.09 payable October 15th and will total $0.36 annually and yield 3.23% at yesterday's $11.16 closing price.

KBAL Gains?

Adding the $0.36 annual anticipated dividend to my $1.84 optimistic estimate of KBAL's price upside shows a $2.20 potential gross gain, per share, to be reduced by any costs to trade the shares.

If we put a little under $1,000.00 today in Kimball International Inc. at $11.16, we would buy 89 shares of KBAL stock.

A $10 broker fee paid half at purchase and half at sale could cost us about $0.11 per share.

Subtract that $0.11 brokerage cost from my estimated $2.20 gross gain per share results in a net gain of $2.09 X 89 shares = $186.01 for a 18.6% net gain on a $993.24 investment.

Thus, Kimball International Inc. (KBAL) shows a possible 18.6% net gain including a 3.23% dividend yield. It could be more, it could be less.

All of the estimates above are speculation based on the past history of Kimball International Inc. (KBAL). Only time and money invested in this stock will determine its worth.
