Haverty Furniture Companies Inc bears the ticker symbol HVT and this is my first mention of HVT for my new Viking Portfolio, However, I have mentioned HVT before for one or more of my previous seven Dog of The Week Portfolios

Haverty Furniture Companies Inc is a specialty retailer of residential furniture and accessories. It provides various products such as Sofa Tables, Sleepers, End Tables, Cocktail Tables, Accent Pieces, Display Cabinets, Wall Decor, Florals and Tress, and other related products.

The company derives the majority of its revenue from its upholstery products and, secondarily, from bedroom furniture.

The company sells home furnishings through its retail stores, as well as through its Website. As of December 31, 2021, it operated 121 showrooms in 16 states in the Southern and Midwestern regions.

Haverty Furniture Companies, Inc. was founded in 1885 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Three key data points gauge Haverty Furniture Companies Inc:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Those three basic keys best tell whether any company has made, is making, and will make money.

HVT Price

Haverty’s price per share was $32.35 at Tuesday’s market close. However, in the past year, HVT’s share price was essentially level,  rising $0.06.

If HVT’s stock trades in the range of $20.00 to $40.00 this next year, its recent $32.35 share price might reach $36.00 by next year. My upside increase estimate of $1.65 is about $0.09 above the average of annual HVT share price increases over the past ten years.

HVT Dividends

Haverty’s most recently declared a quarterly dividend of $0.28 per share, combined with recent special dividends equals  $2.50 annually to casts a yield of 7.73%.  YCharts pegs HVT’s forward yield at 3.51%

HVT Returns

Adding a more conservative  $1.12 annual HVT dividend to my one-year price upside estimate of $1.65 reveals a $2.77 potential gross gain per share.

At Tuesday’s $32.35 closing price, a little over $1000 would buy 31 shares.

A $10 broker fee (if charged), paid half at purchase and a half at the sale, might cost us about $0.32 per share.

Subtracting that maybe $0.32 brokerage cost from my estimated $2.77 gross gain per share results in a net gain of $2.45 X 31 shares = $75.50 for a 7.5% net gain including a 3.46% annual dividend yield.

In a year our $1K investment in shares of Haverty Furniture Companies Inc would generate $34.60 in cash dividends. Of course, a single share of HVT stock at Tuesday's $32.35 price is  $2.25 under the annual dividend income from our $1000.00 investment.

So, by my dogcatcher ideal, this is probably a good time to buy Haverty Furniture Companies Inc shares based on their dividends for the coming year 2023. The current dividend from $1K invested is $2.35 more than Haverty’s single share price. Consider yourself alerted. This could be a buy point for HVT.

All of the estimates above are speculation based on the past history of Haverty Furniture Companies Inc. Only time and money invested in this stock will determine its market value.
