Founded in 1839 and headquartered in Jersey City, NJ, Provident Financial Services, Inc. (PFS) is a holding company that provides banking services to individual and corporate customers in Northern and Central New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.
Three key data points gauge PFS or any dividend-paying entity, namely:
(1) Price
(2) Dividends
(3) Returns
Those keys also indicate if any company has made, is making, and will make money.
PFS Price
Provident’s single share price dropped 10.2% from $21.12 to $19.47 last year, per Tuesday’s market price.
Four analysts cover the stock and set a one-year target price up $3.18 to $22.62.
Historically, however, the PFS share price varied between an all-time high of $29.12 and a low of $7.50. Generally staying at about the $15.00 level.
PFS Dividends
Provident Financial has paid variable quarterly dividends since May 2003.
It paid a $0.24 Quarterly dividend totaling $0.96 for 2025. So, $0.96 is Provident’s forward-looking dividend amount for 2026.
PFS Returns
Putting it all together, a hypothetical $3.48 estimated gross gain per share shows up when adding PFS’s annual $0.96 dividend to the history-tempered analyst estimate of a $2.52 annual price gain.
A little under $1000 invested at Tuesday’s $19.48 share price would buy 51 shares which, multiply the $3.48 estimated gross gain to $178.64 for the coming year.
About 27.6% of that $179 gain comes from an annual dividend payout of $49.30.
And that $49.30 dividend from $1k invested is over 2.5x greater than Provident’s $19.48 single share price.
(The dividend dogcatcher rule is to only buy initial shares of a stock that pays an annual dividend from $1000 invested that is greater than the cost of a single share.)
2.5 is more than 1.
Therefore, you may choose to pounce on PFS and its annual dividend payout of about 2.5 times its single share price.
The exact track of Provident Financial’s future share price and dividends will entirely be determined by market action and company finances.
Remember, the best way to track stock performance and dividend payments is through direct ownership of company shares.
