Cannabis Central: The Pure-Play Pot Stock Index Continued To Advance On Monday

Despite the four Canadian stock exchanges being closed for the country's Thanksgiving Day holiday (October 12th versus November 26th in the U.S.), the munKNEE Pure-Play Pot Stock Index was up 4.4% on Monday on the heels of increases of 2.4%, 9.3%, and 4.7% the previous three trading days. 19 of the 25 constituents went up, one had No Change in price and 5 declined. Two of the three industry categories went up as well. Details are as follows:

Index Performance

The Index has companies doing business in a number of different categories and sub-categories based on their primary area of focus in the cannabis industry. These categories are identified below along with those stocks within each category that went up by 5% or more:

  1. The Vertically Integrated (i.e. Seed-to-Sale) Category has 22 index constituents that grow, process, and sell cannabis and hemp flower and related products and it was up 4.4%.
    1. the Canadian Licensed Producer (LPs) has 7 index constituents and it went up 5.6%, on average, with the following constituents within the category going up by 5% or more: 
      1. Aphria (APHA) +10.8%
      2. Canopy Growth (CGC) +8.5%
    2. the U.SMulti-State Operator (MSOs) Category has 13 index constituents and it went up 4.1%on average, with the following constituents within the category going up by 5% or more:
      1. Medicine Man (SHWZ) +21.3%
      2. Harvest Health (HRVSF) +9.8%
      3. Jushi (JUSHF) +9.7%
      4. TerrAscend (TRSSF) +8.2%
      5. Ayr (AYRSF) +7.1% 
    3. The hemp seed-to-sale MSO sub-category has two index constituents and it went down 0.3%, on average, with both constituents moving in excess of 5%, as follows:
      1. Charlotte's Web (CWBHF) +6.1%
      2.  cbdMD (YCBD) -9.2%
  2. The Extraction Category has two index constituents focused on the extraction of cannabis compounds and their infusion into consumer products and it went up 0.3%, on average, but neither did so by 5% or more.
  3. The Consumption Devices Category has only one index constituent, Greenlane (GNLN), focused on developing and selling personal consumption devices for cannabis consumers, such as vape pens and inhalers, and it went up 13.1%.

Interest has returned to this realm and so prices are rising. This is quite reasonable.
