Recommerce: A Look At The Secondhand Good Economy
Have you ever wondered how you could earn money, save money, and protect the planet all at the same time? If you’ve dreamed of being some kind of finance savvy planetary superhero, then recommerce is just what you’re looking for!
Recommerce is the buying and selling of pre-owned, secondhand items. Think yard sales, thrift stores, Facebook Marketplace, and eBay. Of course, with the economic toll of the COVID pandemic of 2020, it’s no surprise that recommerce is on the rise. In a survey of eBay sellers, 72% said that recommerce is more common in recent years, and 81% of Gen Zers agree. 68% of eBay sellers in the UK say that they started selling to make extra cash in 2020.
On average, Americans have 36 household items that could be resold worth a total of $3,675, and Canadians have an average of $5,660 USD worth of items that could be resold from their homes.
Recommerce is also great for the environment as it reduces waste and reduces the need for new products to be made.
