AGNC Investment Corp, known by the ticker symbol AGNC, is a mid-cap Mortgage Real Estate Investment Trust, operating in the real estate business sector. This is my first report on AGNC Investment Corp (AGNC) for this Viital portfolio. I have did report on the company for one of my early previous six portfolios.
AGNC Investment Corp is a real estate investment trust that invests in agency residential mortgage-backed securities.
The firm's asset portfolio is comprised of residential mortgage pass-through securities and collateralized mortgage obligations for which the principal and interest payments are guaranteed by a U.S. Government-sponsored enterprise, such as the Federal National Mortgage Association and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, or by a U.S. Government agency, such as the Government National Mortgage Association.
It also invests in other types of mortgage and mortgage-related residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities or other investments in or related to, the housing, mortgage or real estate markets.
The company has elected to be taxed as a REIT under the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and would not be subject to federal corporate income taxes, if it distributes at least 90% of its taxable income to its stockholders.
The company was formerly known as American Capital Agency Corp. and changed its name to AGNC Investment Corp. in September 2016. AGNC Investment Corp. was incorporated in 2008 and is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland.
Three key data points gauge any dividend equity or fund such as AGNC Investment Corp (AGNC):
(1) Price
(2) Dividends
(3) Returns
Those three basic keys best tell whether any company has made, is making, and will make money.
AGNC Price
AGNC's price per share was $13.38 as of yesterday's market close. One year ago its price was $16.76. Therefore, AGNC's share price fell $3.38 or 20.2% in the past year.
If AGNC's stock trades in the range of $12.50 to $20.00 this next year, its recent $13.38 share price might rise by $1.62 to reach $15.00 by March 29, 2023. My $15.00 estimate is $0,09 greater than the median of target price estimates from eleven analysts covering AGNC for various brokerages.
AGNC Dividends
AGNC's most recent monthly dividend of $0.12 will be paid April 12 to shareholders on record as of March 30th. Assuming the same rate holds true for the coming months, the resulting annual dividend payout per share of $1.44 yields 12.76% at yesterday's $13.38 closing price.
AGNC has paid regular monthly payouts since October 27, 2014. That stretch marks 8 years come October.
AGNC Returns
Adding the $1.44 AGNC Investment Corp annual dividend to the estimated one-year price upside of $1.62 shows a $3.06 potential gross gain, per share, to be reduced by any costs to trade AGNC shares.
At yesterday's $13.38 price per share, a little over $1000 would buy 75 shares.
A $10 broker fee (if charged) would be paid half at purchase and half at sale and might cost us about $0.13 per share.
Subtract that maybe $0.13 brokerage cost from my estimated $3.06 gross gain estimate per share results in a net gain of $2.93 X 75 shares = $219.75 for a 21.95% net gain on a $1,003.50 investment.
So it is that AGNC Investment Corp (AGNC): shows a possible 21.95% net gain including a 10.76% forward looking dividend yield.
Over the next year at this time our $1000 investment in AGNC Investment Corp (AGNC) could generate $107.60 in cash dividends alone. Note that a single share of AGNC stock bought at yesterday's single share price of $13.38 is about 1/8 of the anticipated dividend income from our $1000.00 invested. So, by my dogcatcher ideal, now maybe the time to buy AGNC Investment Corp (AGNC) shares. The estimated next-year dividend from $1K invested is 8.042 times greater than yesterday's single share price. Consider yourself alerted. Its a sign!
All of the estimates above are speculation based on the past history of AGNC Investment Corp (AGNC). Only time and money invested in this stock will determine its market value.
