Sensex Today Rallies 545 Points Higher; Nifty Above 26,100

Although the benchmark indices opened higher, they traded positively throughout the session and ultimately closed green.

Indian equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty50, concluded the final trading session of the calendar year on a bullish note, with broad-based buying lifting most sectors except for IT.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex closed higher by 545 points (up 0.6%).

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 190 points higher (up 0.7%).

Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra, and Reliance Industries are among the top gainers today.

TCS, Tech Mahindra, and Infosys, on the other hand, were among the top losers today.

The GIFT Nifty was trading at  26,275, higher by 172 points at the time of writing.

The BSE MidCap index ended 1% higher, and the BSE SmallCap index ended 1.1% higher.

Barring the IT sector, all other sectoral indices are trading positively today, with stocks oil & gas sector and the metal sector witnessing buying.

The rupee is trading at Rs 89.9 against the US$.

Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading 0.9% lower at Rs 135,337 per gram.

Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 5% lower at Rs 236,414 per 1 kg.
 

ZF Steering Gear Subsidiary Wins Major Order

In the news from auto sector, shares of ZF Steering Gear's rose after its wholly owned subsidiary, Drivesys Systems (Aluminium Division), received a major order worth around Rs 1.5 bn.

In an exchange filing, the company said that Drivesys Systems has secured this order from a leading Indian business conglomerate for its renewable energy business. As part of the agreement, the subsidiary will manufacture and supply machined aluminium parts. The order is expected to be completed within 15 months.

ZF Steering Gear is a leading manufacturer of steering systems for buses, tractors, and commercial vehicles. The company has been operating in India since 1981, following a joint venture with Germany's ZF Friedrichshafen AG, and was among the first to introduce hydraulic power and mechanical steering systems in India.
 

Muthoot Finance infuses equity into Muthoot Money

Moving on to the news from finance sector, Muthoot Finance has allotted 3.25 lakh shares in its subsidiary, Muthoot Money, to strengthen its capital and support growth.

The funds from this equity allotment will be used for business expansion, general corporate needs, repaying existing loans, and improving the company's capital position.

As the sole owner, Muthoot Finance continues to support Muthoot Money's growth while keeping strong oversight. Several directors from Muthoot Finance also serve on Muthoot Money's board, providing guidance and governance.

This investment is part of Muthoot Finance's plan to strengthen its subsidiary while maintaining good management and control.

Lupin expects VISUfarma deal by February

Moving on to the news from pharma sector, shares of Lupin came into focus after it announced the acquisition of Amsterdam-based VISUfarma BV is in progress and may be completed by 28 February 2026.

Lupin provided an update on its acquisitions and partnerships. Earlier, on September 29, 2025, the company said that its wholly owned subsidiary, Nanomi BV, had signed an agreement to acquire all shares of VISUfarma BV, based in Amsterdam. At that time, Lupin expected the deal to be completed by the end of 2025.

On December 29, Lupin announced a new exclusive license, supply, and distribution agreement with Gan & Lee Pharmaceuticals from China for bofanglutide, a new GLP-1 receptor agonist given every two weeks. This move is intended to strengthen Lupin's diabetes treatments and expand its presence in the obesity segment.
