Sensex Today Rallies 500 Points; Nifty Above 24,700

Asian markets are mostly trading narrow on Wednesday following Wall Street's overnight performances. This comes after a temporary agreement between the US-China to reduce tariff for 90 days the US will cut tariff on Chinese goods from 145% to 30% while China will lower duties on Us imports to 10%.

US markets rose on Tuesday followed by US inflation rose less than predicted in April despite Donald Trump's new tariff which are expected to drive up prices.

At present, the BSE Sensex is trading 500 points higher, and the NSE Nifty is trading 149 points higher.

Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel among the top gainers today

Tata Motors, Asian Paints, and Nestle, on the other hand, are among the top losers today.

The BSE MidCap index ended 0.8% higher, and the BSE SmallCap index ended 0.9% higher.

Sectoral indices were trading mixed today with stocks in healthcare sector and auto sector witnessing selling pressure. Meanwhile, stocks in metal sector and media sector witness buying.
 

Tata Motors Q4 Profit Declines Sharply

Tata Motors reported 51% drop in its consolidated net profit to Rs 64.7 billion (bn) compared to Rs 174.1 bn the previous year.

Total revenue from operation of Q4 surged 0.4% reaching Rs 1,195 bn compared to Rs 1,190 bn in the same period last year.

Tata Motor's total expenses for the quarter decreased to Rs 1,090 bn from Rs 1,111 bn the previous year.

The company's board of directors declared a total dividend of Rs 6 per share for the FY25.

The dividend will be paid to the eligible shareholders by 24 June 2025.

Sales of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) increase 1.1% for the quarter, driven by strong demand for SUVs in key markets such as North America and Europe. This growth is contributed to the company's performance during the period.

JLR's growth slowed due to weak Chia sales, but its high-margin SUV business helped offset slow demand in India. JLR's revenue jumped 2.4%.

Tata Motors CFO said that the company has performed well in FY25 despite challenges, achieving revenue and profit records. The automotive business is now debt-free which will reduce interest cost.

The company also added that tariff and geopolitical issues are creating uncertainty.

Bharti Airtel Reports Q4 Profit

Indian multinational telecommunication company Bharti Airtel reported Q4 net profit increased to Rs 110.2 bn from 20.7 bn last year, with an increase of 432%.

Revenue from operations jumped 27% year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 478.7 bn from 375.9 bn in the same period last year.

Reason was rise in revenue was due strong growth in India, improved performance in Africa, and the added impact of Indus Tower consolidation.

Airtel's Indian mobile services revenue grew 20.6% yearly in Q4 driven by price hikes, more smartphone users and premium services.

Airtel's digital TV revenue slightly dropped 0.6% while Passive Infrastructure Services revenue rose 7.4% yearly and 2.5% quarterly.

Q4 EBITDA was Rs 274 bn with a 57.2 % margin. India's business contributed Rs 220.2 bn with a 60% margin, up 6.3% yearly.

Airtel added 24 million smartphone users yearly and 6.6 million quarterly. Now 77% of its mobile customers use smartphones. It also gained 0.6 million postpaid users in Q4.
 

Aditya Birla Q4 Profit Declines 30%

Aditya Birla Capital reported 30% decline in Q4 net profit of Rs 8.5 bn for FY24-25 compared to Rs 12.7 bn last year.

Q4 Revenue rose 13% to Rs 122.1 bn from 107.8 bn last year. For full year FY25, revenue grew 20% to Rs 473.7 bn. Operating profit increased 25% in Q4 and 19% for full year.

Its lending portfolio grew 27% yearly and 8% quarterly to Rs 1,574 bn of Q4FY25.

Aditya Birla Capital's assets under management grew 17% to Rs 5,112 bn. Life and health insurance premium rose 22% to Rs 255 bn in FY25.

Also, the company expanded its presence to 1,623 branches across India.

The company's housing Finance segment saw significant growth with disbursement surging 98% yearly to Rs 58.2 bn in Q4.

In life Insurance, its individual first-year premium rose 34% to Rs 41.2 bn and group new business premium grew 23% to Rs 55.9 bn.
