Sensex Today Rallies 1,600 Points; Nifty Above 23,300
Asian shares gained, led by Japan, as President Donald Trump floated a potential pause in auto tariffs, providing further relief to the market after suspending levies on some consumer electronics.
Indexes in Japan rose more than 1%, with companies such as Toyota Motor Corp.
The US Stocks rose in a choppy session on Monday, helped by a rally in tech names following a surprise US tariff exemption from President Donald Trump.

At present, the BSE Sensex is trading 1,614 points higher, and the NSE Nifty is trading 495 points higher.
Tata Motors, Trent, and L&T are among the top gainers today.
HUL, Nestle, and ITC, on the other hand, are among the top losers today.
The BSE Midcap index is trading 1.9% higher, and the BSE Smallcap index is trading 2.3% higher.
Sectoral indices are trading on a positive note today, with stocks in the capital goods sector, auto sector, and realty sector witnessing buying speer.
The rupee is trading at Rs 85.7 against the US dollar.
Tata Power Subsidiary Bags New Order
Tata Power Company Limited on Monday (14 April) said its subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NTPC Limited to develop a 200 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy project.
The project is valued at approximately Rs 45 billion (bn) and is expected to be executed within 24 months. The project will include provisions for assured power supply, tailored to NTPC's scheduling requirements, making it a flexible and reliable source of renewable energy.
Last week, Tata Power said it has received approval from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) to install a 100-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project. The project will be installed across 10 strategically located sites in Mumbai over the next two years.
Equipped with advanced black start functionality, the BESS will enable a swift recovery of power supply to critical infrastructure, including the metro, hospitals, airports, and data centres, in case of grid disturbances.
Additionally, the system will optimise reactive power management, improving peak demand efficiency and strengthening the city's power infrastructure.
SBI Cuts FD Interest Rates
Within a week of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cutting its repo rate by 25 basis points, the largest bank in India - State Bank of India (SBI) - has cut its interest rate on fixed deposits (FDs) by 10 basis points. On an FD of one year, SBI has cut fixed deposit (FD) by 10 basis points from 6.8% to 6.7% for general citizens.
On an FD of two to three years, SBI has cut its FD interest rate from 7% to 6.9%.
The interest rates which senior citizens are entitled to receive on fixed deposits (FDs) of 1-2 year tenure will also fall from 7.3% to 7.2% starting today. On a tenure of 2-3 years, senior citizens are entitled to receive 7.4% starting today instead of 7.5% earlier.
The specific tenor scheme of 444 days (Amrit Vrishti) at a rate of interest of 7.05% is effective from 15 April and senior citizens are offered a rate of interest of 7.55%. Super senior citizens are offered a rate of interest of 7.65%.
Adani Ports to Consider Preferential Issue
Shares of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. are in focus after the company said its board of directors will meet on Thursday, 17 April, to consider the proposal of a preferential issue of its equity shares, among other matters.
The same is subject to approval of the company's members and other approvals, as applicable.
Adani Ports' board of directors will also consider convening an extra-ordinary general meeting or a postal ballot process for the approval of shareholders, with regards to the proposal of preferential issue.
On another note, the company reported its highest-ever cargo volume of 41.5 MMT in March 2025, up 9% from the year-ago period.
This was led by containers, which gained 19% and the liquids and gas volume, which was up 5% from the year-ago period.
During the financial year 2025, Adani Ports handled 450.2 MMT cargo volume, up 7% from the previous year. This was led by container volume, which was up 20% and the liquids and gas volume, which was up 9% from the previous year.
