Sensex Today Ends 345 Points Lower; Nifty Below 25,950

Although the benchmark indices opened lower, they traded negatively throughout the session and ultimately closed red.

Indian equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty50, extended losses for the fourth straight session, weighed down by heavy selling in IT, realty, pharma and auto stocks.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex closed lower by 345 points ( down 0.4%).

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 100 points lower (down 0.4%).

Tata Steel, Asian Paints, and NTPC are among the top gainers today.

Adani Ports, HCL Tech, and Trent, on the other hand, were among the top losers today.

The GIFT Nifty was trading at  26,060, lower by 117 points at the time of writing.

The BSE MidCap index ended 0.4% lower, and the BSE SmallCap index ended 0.5% lower.

Barring the banking sector and the telecommunication sector, all other sectoral indices are trading negatively today, with stocks in the power sector and realty sector witnessing selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at Rs 89.9 against the US$.

Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading 1% lower at Rs 138,399 per gram.

Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 1.5% lower at Rs 236,076 per 1 kg.
 

Vedanta Rallies After Depo Graphite-Vanadium Win

In the news from metal sector, shares of Vedanta came into focus after the company won the Depo Graphite-Vanadium block in a government auction for critical minerals. Vedanta announced on Friday that it was the successful bidder in the fourth round of critical mineral auctions held by the Ministry of Mines.

The company received an official letter confirming the win, after completing all required legal steps. Vedanta said this deal will help strengthen its presence in important minerals needed for future industries.

Earlier this month, the Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved Vedanta's plan to split its business into separate companies. This will allow the group to focus better on different sectors.

Under the plan, Vedanta will separate its Aluminium, Power, Oil & Gas, and Steel & Ferrous businesses into four new companies.

 

Diamond Power Wins Power Cable Order

Diamond Power Infrastructure Ltd said on Friday that it has received a letter of intent from Hild Projects Private Limited to supply power cables worth Rs 0.66 billion (bn).

The order comes from Hild Projects, an Indian EPC contractor, and will be executed based on the distance of cable laid, with prices adjusted as needed.

The work is planned to take place between 1 January 2026, and 30 June 2026.

Diamond Power, which works in the power cables sector, continues to get new orders thanks to ongoing investments in transmission and infrastructure projects.

Timex Shares Fall on Promoter OFS

Shares of Timex Group India fell by 10% on 29 December 2025, as the company's promoter started a two-day offer for sale (OFS). The floor price for the OFS was set at a 22% discount compared to the last closing price.

The promoter, Timex Group Luxury Watches B.V., plans to sell up to 4,509,250 shares, which is 4.47% of the company's total shares.

The OFS runs from 29 December 2025 to 30 December 2025. On the first day, only non-retail investors can apply. On the second day, retail investors can apply, along with non-retail investors who didn't get all their shares on the first day.

Timex Group India also announced its board meeting to discuss the company's financial results for the third quarter of the 2025-26 financial year. The meeting is scheduled for 03 February 2025, to approve the unaudited results for the quarter and nine months ending 31 December 2025.
