Sensex Today Ends 288 Points Lower; Nifty Below 25,500

After opening the day higher, the benchmark indices continued their downward momentum, ended the session in the red.

Indian equity market indices extended the risk-off sentiment, with benchmarks trading cautiously amid US President Donald Trump's firm stance on the tariff deadline.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex closed lower by 288 points (down 0.3%).

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 88 points lower (down 0.3%).

Tata Steel, Asian Paints, Uand ltraTech Cement are among the top gainers today

Bajaj Finserv, L&T, and HDFC Bank, on the other hand, were among the top losers today.

The GIFT Nifty was trading at  25,52,6, lower by 130 points at the time of writing.

The BSE MidCap index ended 0.2% lower, and the BSE SmallCap index ended 0.2% lower.

Sectoral indices were trading mixed today, with stocks in the metal sector and the telecommunication sector witnessing buying. Meanwhile, stocks in the media sector and the financial service sector witnessed selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at Rs 85.4 against the US$.

Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading 0.1% higher at Rs 97,353 per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 0.1% higher at Rs 105,990 per 1 kg.
 

Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases Shares Plummet Suddenly

In the news from industrial gases sector, shares of Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases dropped 7% on Wednesday, with investors booking profits a day after its debut.

The company plans to use the IPO funds to boosts its financial and operational strength. Rs 2.1 billion (bn) will go towards debt repayment, Rs 1.1 bn for setting up a new production unit 220 TPD air separation unit, and the rest for general business purposes.

Established in 1973, Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases Ltd (EIGL) is a prominent Indian producer and supplier of medical and industrial gases, providing a range of products such as nitrogen and oxygen.

With 1,829 customers, Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases serves a wide range of industries, including steel, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare. It employs over 360 people and runs 8 manufacturing facilities in several states, providing turnkey projects, medical equipment, and industrial gases, among other goods and services.
 

CLN Energy Wins BSNL Battery Contract

Moving on to the news from energy sector, CLN Energy Limited (CLN) has announced a significant milestone in the lithium-ion battery supply project for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), one of India's top telecom service providers.

The supply's first phase, which was supposed to be finished by June 2025, was shipped out without incident. The second phase, which CLN is currently actively working on, is expected to be finished by the 14 July 2025, deadline.

An important turning point in our pre-IPO journey was reached when CLN successfully won a tender for the supply of lithium-ion batteries valued at about Rs 1.7 bn.

This victory demonstrates the company's technical prowess and reaffirms its dedication to providing clean and reliable energy solutions to support critical infrastructure.

AstraZeneca India Wins CDSCO approval for Imfinzi

Moving on to the news from pharma sector, shares of AstraZeneca rise 2% after it received approval from Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) to import durvalumab solution for infusion (brand name: Imfinzi) in strengths of 120 mg/2.4 ml and 500 mg/10 ml for an additional indication.

For adults with primary, advanced, or recurrent endometrial cancer who are candidates for systemic therapy, the new indication permits durvalumab to be used as a first-line treatment in conjunction with carboplatin and paclitaxel.

With the new approval, Imfinzi (durvalumab) can now be used as a first-line treatment for advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer in conjunction with chemotherapy (paclitaxel and carboplatin). Patients with proficient mismatch repair (pMMR) endometrial cancer will then receive maintenance treatment with Durvalumab and Olaparib.

AstraZeneca gets clearance to market Imfinzi in India for treating endometrial cancer, pending other necessary approvals.
 

Hyundai Motors Shares Tanks 5%

Moving on to the news from auto sector, shares of Hyundai Motors tanks 5% after the company reported and highlighted weak demand in the Indian passenger's vehicle market.

In June, the company shipped 44,024 units to dealers, a 12% decrease from the same time last year. The company turned its attention to growing exports as domestic demand remained muted. Consequently, the export contribution increased from 22.2% in Q1 FY25 to 26.7% in Q1 FY26.

According to the company's regulatory filing, it shipped 48,140 units during the quarter, down from 42,600 units during the same period last year.
