The World Economic Forum, often referred to as that annual meeting in Davos, is provided favorable press coverage around the world.

 Its mission statement describes the attendees as follows: “The Forum engages the foremost political, business, cultural and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.”

Do you qualify for any of these categories? Likely not. Yet most of the attendees assume they have the right and duty to dictate your future. In essence, you are too stupid to be allowed to make your own decisions.

The group is top-heavy with Statists, both those elected but mostly those unelected. Their underlying belief is that it is they who should be running your life and the world. The job is too important to leave to popularly elected politicians, unless of course, they think in terms that would deserve an invite to Davos. The concept of democracy is OK if they can overrule it.

Their raison d’etre, unstated of course, is the belief that no one but themselves can be trusted with managing the world. In essence, they seek a super agency above and more powerful than individual governments. This goal is unstated but is consistent with their various objectives and recommendations over the years. The Burning Platform provides an interesting summary of some of these ideas:

Imagine a one-world super-government adding its nonsense on top of the nonsense of national governments who compound the nonsense of local governments!

Davos is the Hotel California

The European Union is an example of a limited attempt at this oversight. It has created dissatisfaction among its members. For the UK, their Brexit was like escaping prison. It was not easy! The following countries are still subject to this body: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. I am not sure of the attitudes of the citizens of these countries regarding this imposition of control which they cannot change. I suspect it is akin to the “Hotel California” song where it becomes easy to enter but impossible to leave.

World government has its model in the United Nations except with real teeth! Does anyone believe that the UN does anything but empower and enrich the incompetent? The World Economic Forum imagines itself as a replacement for the UN, but with taxing and legislative powers to impose their will on the world.  The best that can be said of the Davos attendees is that they are either terribly naïve or terribly power-crazed. Either alternative is supportive of a disbelief in the average person to run his own life.

Government is corrupt in proportion to its removal from the people. In the United States, local governments are corrupt but their effects are inconsequential. As the level of government is removed from the people, the corruption magnifies. Making any level of government independent of the people will make the Mafia look inept.

Supporting the World Economic Forum is to be against individual freedom and rights. Its “noble” objectives, like the socialist reformers everywhere, produce only impoverishment and tyranny. If they succeed in achieving their objective, success will be measured in the number of express lanes they add to “The Road to Serfdom.”
