 Gold prices rise due to uncertainty in the China-US trade deal

Gold prices rose slightly on Monday as investors worried about renewed trade tensions and a slowing Chinese economy. Inflation data from China brought fears of a slowdown. While China's consumer price index grew at its fastest pace in almost eight years, the producer price index fell the most in more than three years in October, underscoring the moderate demand problem.

China leaves US talks early on sanctions dispute

China will leave trade talks with the United States earlier than planned because the United States does not show "sincerity" because Washington is still unwilling to abolish tariffs or sanctions, Fox Business reported. The Chinese delegation, led by Vice Premier Liu He, offered to buy more agricultural products from the United States, according to sources familiar with the matter.

CNN reported earlier that the White House denied a South China Morning Post report that China would leave trade talks as early as the day after lawmaker-level negotiations failed to produce results.

China and the United States have not issued an official statement on the future of the negotiations so far.

Li China: The pressure on our economy is rising

Meanwhile, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said pressure on the world's second largest economy is on the rise, adding that his country will maintain a reasonable range of economic operations, Chinese media reported on Monday. He said China will make good use of anti-economic adjustments to counter the pressure. Later this week, China will release its Q3 GDP report. Li's remarks came after reports that China wanted to continue talks on the "first phase" of its trade deal with the United States. Earlier in the day, data from China showed that the country's exports fell 3.2% in September year on year.
