Not getting enough sleep is something that afflicts a huge number of people. 77% of American adults haven’t been sleeping as well as they have since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. But even before the start of the pandemic, Americans were losing lots of sleep - more than half of all Americans weren’t getting enough sleep. But COVID-19 has caused high levels of stress, making it harder and harder to sleep - since the pandemic, sleep problems have grown much more rampant.
Sleep can be vital in staying healthy - at least 6 out of the 10 leading causes have been linked to a lack of sleep. Sleep can also affect how well your immune system is able to fend off attacking viruses, bacteria, and more. One of the many benefits that sleep has on the immune system is that during sleep, white blood cells can fight and destroy antigens caught by lymphatic tissues during the day.
