In my first article earlier this month, entitled Short Squeeze Activity..., I explained all things short stock-related, namely:
- Why Do Speculators 'Short' Stocks?
- How Do You Short A Stock?
- What Is Short Volume?
- What Is Short Interest?
- What Is A Short Squeeze?
- Which Stocks Have Outrageously High (i.e. +30%) Percentage of Short Sales to Total Shares?
and identified the 15 stocks that have short sales in excess of 30% of total shares. Source: shortsqueeze.com
My follow-up article last week, entitled Who's Winning - The 'Shorters' Or The 'Squeezers'?, expanded the list to include an additional 10 stocks with short sales in excess of 25% of total shares and provided a score card as to which group, the institutional "shorters" or the individual retail "squeezers" - connected through social media sites such as Reddit's WallStreetBets - were currently winning the game.
The week before last, the "Squeezers" began to gain the upper hand out-scoring the "Shorters" 18 to 7 (see here). Now we can report on the most recent week's score and it is a complete reversal of the previous week: Shorters 21; Squeezers 4.
Conclusion
The big players, the "Shorters", have shorted 25 stocks with the expectation that the price of those stocks would drop in price going forward and that, as such, they would eventually reap major profits as a result. Currently, they are winning as the attempt by the small retail investors, the "Squeezers", to drive the price of such highly shorted stocks down in price has not succeeded - at least not to date.
