Introduction

Balambika the Warrior Queen

Long ago, an army of women warriors, called the Sakthi army, lived inside a strong fort. A wall of fire protected it, and many gods guarded it too. No one could break in. But a powerful demon named Bhanda grew jealous. He wanted to capture Sri Lalitha Devi and her army, so he planned to attack the fort.

Bhanda and his sons gathered a huge demon army to destroy the fort. This made young Balambika very angry. She asked her mother for permission to fight the demons herself. At first, her mother was worried — how could a child fight such a strong enemy? But she saw the courage in her daughter's eyes and agreed.

Balambika rode out on a chariot pulled by swans to face the demon army. The odds were against her, but her courage never wavered. She defeated the mighty demon army and made them run away in fear. One by one, she also defeated all of Bhanda's sons.

How Balambika Looks

Balambika has four arms. Her palms are marked with a small circle of red Aalta. In one hand, she holds a book, which stands for knowledge. In another hand, she holds a Japa Mala (prayer beads), which stands for spirituality. Her young face shines bright like the sun, and her eyes spread divine light all around. Devotees also admire the diamond nose pin she wears.

The Story of Goddess Ambika

Some stories say Balambika once wished to marry Lord Shiva. She went to the forest and sat under a Vanni tree to pray to him. Shiva was pleased with her devotion and was ready to grant her wish. But Sage Narada stepped in and reminded Shiva of his other duties. So the marriage never happened.

Balambika was sad, but this did not weaken her devotion. She stayed pure and devoted to Lord Shiva for her whole life.

Chanting "Aim Kleem Sowm" is said to bring the Goddess's blessings. These words stand for learning, attraction, and abundance. People believe that chanting this mantra often can solve problems in life. Teachers often tell their students about this mantra. Since Balambika is worshipped as a child, she is a favorite goddess for children too.
