The IPO Wave Is Coming But Private Markets Got There First

Private markets are dominating capital raises, with giants like OpenAI securing billions long before their expected IPO debuts.

This year is expected to see a wave of IPOs as private companies look to raise capital for their next stage of expansion. While IPOs remain one of the most effective ways for companies to secure substantial funding and access public markets, the rapid growth of private capital markets has allowed many firms to raise significant amounts of money before ever going public. OpenAI currently leads the pack with an estimated fund raising near $178 billion, followed by Anthropic and Databricks.This trend highlights how developed private markets have become, fueled by venture capital firms as well as large institutional and public funds seeking exposure to high-growth private companies before they enter the public market.
