The U.S. government made a major $8.9 billion investment in Intel (INTC) in August 2025, and that position has since appreciated to more than $30 billion. This raises an interesting question: should the U.S. government itself be viewed as an investor worth tracking? So far, the government has directed significant capital toward strategic sectors such as semiconductors and critical minerals. Although the Intel investment was initiated last year, its substantial increase in value since then underscores the potential upside these types of long-term, nationally strategic investments may generate.
