The United States leads the world in stock market participation, with 55% of adults investing in equities. Canada follows at 49%, while Australia stands at 37%. In contrast, participation rates in major economies such as Japan, France, and Germany remain around 15%, while Brazil and Mexico lag even further behind at 8% and 1%, respectively. As aging populations and funding pressures place increasing strain on public retirement systems, individuals will likely need to rely more heavily on long-term investing to secure their financial future.
