The Business Of Women's Sports

The business of women's sports is a paradox - viewership is in high demand, but the pay inequality as compared to men's sports is astounding. Read on for more on how this can be changed.

The popularity of women’s sports is on the rise, and as we all know, the sports arena is a huge moneymaker. Up to this point, the potential for investment opportunities in women’s sports has been largely overlooked, but it’s time to change all that.

Women’s sports sponsorships can be highly valuable to brands. It may surprise you to know that 1 in 5 people are more influenced by sponsorships of women’s sports than of men’s. Three in four people interested in women’s sports can name at least one brand involved, and 63% of people believe that brands would do well to invest in both men’s and women’s sports.

With the fanbase for women’s sports ranking in the millions, brands would be wise to pay attention to these investment opportunities. Potential fanbases for women’s sports are 105 million for football/soccer, 94 million for mixed martial arts, 79 million for extreme sports, 72 million for basketball, and 52 million for golf. Not only are these fanbases massive and growing, but as the media begins to increase coverage of women’s sports, viewership will naturally increase as well. In 2020 alone, viewership of women’s sports rose by 300% with 653,000 views.

It’s time for brands to embrace this opportunity and give women’s sports the recognition it deserves.

"The fact that it’s 2021 and the WNBA and NCAA women’s sports are treated like some sort of rec league specialty sport like the national corn hole league is is beyond disgusting, it’s time to stand up and bring true equality to sports." Eric Mitchell - CEO, LifeFlip Media
