An online consumer should be a consumer that is conscious of their purchases while having repercussions in the environment around us. One way that buyers and sellers have been making great strides in this regard is by connecting sustainability with commerce.
A great example of this conscious sustainability has been happening on online eCommerce platform eBay, where in the last year, over 720,000 metric tons of carbon emissions have been avoided. How? Through the use of the buying and selling of second hand goods such as electronics and apparel - a trend that eBay has been calling recommerce. More ambitiously, eBay has stated in their sustainability report that by 2025, eBay is planning to create $3 billion in positive economic impacts and prevent an additional 3 million metric tons of carbon emissions through the sales of pre-owned electronics and apparel.
