Sensex Today Trades Higher; Nifty Above 24,300

Indian share markets are trading higher with Sensex trading 492 points higher, and Nifty is trading 163 points higher.

Asian markets traded lower on Friday, following an overnight fall in US technology stocks.

US stock market ended mixed on Thursday, with the Dow posting a record closing high, after a softer-than-expected US jobs report eased worries about interest rate hikes.

At present, the BSE Sensex is trading 492 points higher, and NSE Nifty is trading 163 points higher.

HCL Tech, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma among the top gainers today.

SBI, M&M, NTPC on the other hand is among the top losers today.

The BSE 150 Midcap index is trading 0.1% higher and the BSE 250 SmallCap index is trading 0.3% higher.

Sectoral indices are trading mixed today with stocks in metal sector and realty sector witnessing buying. Meanwhile, stocks in banking sector and power sector witnessed selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at Rs 95.2 against the US dollar.

Coal India Meets Rising Power Demand

Coal India, the world's largest coal producer, said it supplied 51.44 million tonnes (MT) of coal to power plants in June, up 5.9% from 48.57 MT in the same month last year.

The increase was driven by higher electricity demand during the peak summer season. Power consumption rose 11.62% year-on-year to 166.46 billion units (BU), while peak power demand increased to 264.76 GW from 242.77 GW a year ago.

Overall, Coal India's coal supplies grew 7.5% to 65.8 MT in June, compared with 61.2 MT in June last year.

Supplies to the non-regulated sector, which includes industries such as cement and steel, also saw strong growth. They increased 14.8% to 14.50 MT, up from 12.63 MT a year earlier.

For the April-June quarter (Q1 FY27), Coal India supplied 154.75 MT of coal to the power sector, a 1.8% increase over the same period last year. Its total coal supplies during the quarter rose 3.5% year-on-year to 197.7 MT.

BPCL Acquires Full Ownership of IBV

State-owned BPCL has completed the acquisition of the remaining 39.14% stake in IBV Brasil Petroleo Limitada (IBV) for Rs 23.12 billion (bn), increasing its indirect ownership in the Brazilian oil and gas company from 60.86% to 100%.

IBV is involved in the exploration and producti1on of oil and gas in Brazil. According to BPCL, the acquisition will give the company a larger share of oil and gas production, helping strengthen India's energy security.

The deal was completed on 1 July 2026, after receiving the required approvals from DIPAM and NITI Aayog. The acquisition was made through BPCL's step-down subsidiary, BPRL Ventures B.V., and was completed through a cash transaction.

PC Jeweller Reports Strong Quarterly Growth

PC Jeweller reported a 21% year-on-year increase in consolidated revenue for the first quarter of FY27.

The company also said it expects to become debt-free during the July-September quarter, after reducing its outstanding bank debt by more than 90% so far.

During the June quarter, PC Jeweller further cut its debt under the Joint Settlement Agreement by 24%, strengthening its financial position.
