Indian equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty50, extended losses to the second session as metal, PSU Bank, and cement shares weighed amid mixed global cues.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex  closed 539 points lower (down 0.7%)

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 116 points lower (down 0.4%)

Kotak Mahindra, Tech Mahindra, and Asian Paints are the top gainers today.

NTPC, HDFC Bank, and HCL Tech, on the other hand, were among the top losers today.

The GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,241, 154 points lower at the time of writing.

The BSE 150 Midcap index is trading 0.2% lower, and the BSE 250 SmallCap index is trading 0.04% lower.

Sectoral indices were trading mixed today, with the telecommunication sector and healthcare sector witnessing buying. Meanwhile, stocks in the metal sector and banking sector witnessed selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at Rs 95.5 against the US$.

Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading 0.6% lower at Rs 1,58,640 per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 0.2% lower at 2,39,047 per 1 kg.

Samvardhana Motherson Strengthens Automotive Electronics Manufacturing Capacity

Samvardhana Motherson International's subsidiary, Motherson Electro Components Limited (MECL), has started operations at a new manufacturing facility in Pune, Maharashtra. The new plant will manufacture printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), electronic control units (ECUs), and other electronic products for the automotive sector.

The facility has an initial production capacity of around 1.5 million units per year, which will be increased gradually. The company has invested approximately ?94 crore in the facility so far.

The plant received consent to operate on August 25, 2026, and is expected to strengthen the company's ability to manufacture key electronic components in-house. The new facility is also in line with Motherson's Vision 2030 and supports its plans to expand its presence across the automotive electronics value chain.


HAL Partners With Safran for Aravalli Engine

Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) and Safran Helicopter Engines have signed an agreement with SAFHAL Helicopter Engines to develop a new high-power helicopter engine called "Aravalli."

The engine will have a power output of 3,500 to 4,000 shp and is being developed for HAL's upcoming 13-ton Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH) and its naval version, the Deck-Based Multi-Role Helicopter (DBMRH).

HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K said the partnership is an important step towards making India more self-reliant in aero-engine technology. The programme is expected to strengthen India's domestic aerospace industry while providing engines for the country's next-generation helicopter platforms.
